Okay...I have been thinking of getting a set of TRACK ONLY wheels and tires. It seems there are WAY many choices out there than I ever thought!
What wheel and tire size would everyone recommend? I would prefer an inexpensive wheel in a size that is common enough to have multiple tire choices for.
Everyone's input is appreciated!

Stock rear brakes? Some mods may limit which wheel size you can use.
jeremy with limited choices.

Yes, stock rear brakes. I really do not think I will be going any larger in the rear.

For a while now, Zack and I have been using a widened Marauder wheel (9.5" from WeldCraft) with the BFG Drag Radial in 295/35-18. (note: NOT the Drag Radial-2 that appears in TireRack's history.)
This combo is only 26" tall and it will set off ABS and Traction Control alarms. However, at the race track, you should turn off any TC, and can ignore ABS warning, as it is not a hard code and goes away when you cycle the ignition off.
Very sticky, Zack got a 1.6 60' time, my best was 1.81.
The wheel is not cheap I agree, but very adaptive to many other street tire applications while it retains the classic Marauder appearance.
The tires are priced competitively, around 245-250 each by the time they wait in your garage, and they should last you a good deal of time roo. Maybe two seasons, depending on your frequency of visits to the track.
Just my .02C, eh?

For what it's worth, I drag raced with Zack [and Mac] at Gainesville last year. Those BFGs he uses stick like glue. I never saw him spin a tire or blow the launch. That car sixty-footed like it was on slicks. Incredible.
My buddy Bobby [Budman] bought a set of the BFGs for his Roush, and his sixty-foot times improved dramatically.
