I am planning on attending my first car show with fastbalckmerc in a few weeks. I am looking for any tips that can be offered to a first time wannabe. I dont plan on winning anything, but I would like to at least make the car look as good as I can. The MM has pin stripes ATM. I am planning on removing them and that god aweful chrome "rope" that sits in the grooves around the bumpers and the door guards. Has anyone removed the tape-on pin stripes before? I have lifted up the edge on one part, and I think they will peel right off. Detailing tips are good also. I have been searching the forums for hours, and I think I have the engine bay covered. What about the trunk? Should I be looking for some OEM brochures for the car? This a good thing because even the wife wants to get in on cleaning the car! We have been together for 14 years, and she never wanted to help wash any vehicle.

The tape pin stripes usually peel of leaving some residue. You can clean it off with a wax and grease remover.
Good luck a the show.:D

Gently peel them off.
Follow up with some 3m Adhesive & wax remover, follow that with the wax/polish of your choice.

I have a binder that has alot on Marauder articles & all my mods, all in individual sheet protectors. I leave that on the front radiator support for people to peruse. I have a dealer brochure that I leave on the rear passengers seat along with a MercuryMarauder.net hat. In the trunk I have some framed Marauder pictures and a Florida State Highway patrol calendar opened to the month that has few Marauders on it. I'll also bring some of the trophies I've won and place them in the trunk. In the rear passengers side window I put the original windows sticker that I had laminated.

The stick on stuff will leave a residue. Remove with a denatured alcohol soaked terry towel. Re-wax area.
Completely psycho show things to do:
Mirrors on ground to see undercarriage.
4x8 carpet in front with memorobelia/awards, etc.
Jack up and turn rims so God Head is upright.
There's a million more. But there's some food for thought.
Friendly advice: Clean your car until YOU are happy. Don't spend the whole day cleaning and fussing over every little thing. Get it done and leave it. Take the wife and walk around, meet people, look at cars and enjoy the show. If you get too psycho, you'll both end up not enjoying the experience. Shows are not for winning. They are for meeting other cool car people.
Have fun and Good Luck.

Couldn't agree more..... last show I went to I spent the previous 4 days claybarring, cleaning, waxing, detailing, etc. When I arrived at the show one final wipe with Turtle Wax ICE and I was done except for a final dusting with the California car duster right before judging started. Spent te rest of the time admiring all the other cars there, making new friends, having cool drinks and smoking a few good cigars.....
