I've heard...

How much did those rims cost ----- $37,000.00 (had to buy the car to get them)

I didn't think they made Marauders anymore ----- they don't, stopped in 2004

Is that a fireman's car ---- They think the god Mercury is wearing a fireman's hat

I have gotten a lot of How fast does it go? But the most interesting was not really a question but more of a suggestion. "Yo man you need to get some 22's on dat?" I saw the light was turning and I declined telling him I don't want my car to look bad. I think he was surprised at that. I don't have a problem with larger rims, I just havent seen a set of 22's on a Panther that I would consider good looking. I think 20's would be the largest to go with, but they would not be anything flashy more like some HRE or something.

I've been asked where I bought my rims?, How much boost does the stock pulley give you? Is this a police interceptor?. Is it fast? Where did you get that front bumper cover on your grand marquis? How did you get that name Marauder into the rear bumper like that? How did you come up with that name? Whats the obsession with that guy in the hat that you have it on your seats and rims? Whats the point of those gauges in your console?. Is this a 06 model?
Im missing a few but when you run into the White trash crowd of Long Island at the local car shows, you get these dumb questions.

At car shows with the hood up; "so that's what a cop car motor looks like!"

"Where'd you get those pimpin rims?"

"Why'd you bring a Crown Vic to a car show?"

"Where did you get the exhast tips?"

"so what is it...like a '99 or 2000 model?"

"What's a marooder?"

one of the main reasons I now own the car is the view of the motor with the hood open....it is awsum.
that is the reason I purchased the car to begin with. Bought the car that was at the yearly auto show at the big convention center here in Austin , TX. this was the first I saw that was NOT black ( not good in over the top heat).
The motor whilen " a cobra motor " can be seen for what it is , & NOT tucked away to look like a blob of metal or plastic.

I would tell you the reaction I get BUT... It rairly leaves its cover in my garage. When I drive it , it is for personal reasons & my consumption ONLY.......in my eyes

"Yo thoose look like little soilder dudes on the wheel caps!"
"Are you a police officer or detective?" (No joke, two teenage girls in a Jetta asked me this at a stop light.)

Yeah, the "Thumbs Up" on the road or at a stoplight is the best along with the  and ogling from a distance. :D

Other comments include:

"Mercury Marauder ?? Never heard of it before. So you are saying it was offered only in 2003 & 2004 ??"

"Those exhaust tips aren't stock ... I know that !!"

"Where did you pick up the aftermarket wheels"

"My God ... those heads are huge. 4.6 Liter ... No way !!!"

What kind of motor?
Are you a cop?
That's a beautiful car.

Did it come like that?

Of course, I have been asked on several occasions if I'm driving a Grand Marquis! But, mostly people just stare at my car and especially the wheels and I can tell that they're wondering what it is. It looks so familiar to them, except that they just can't place it. I think that's because the Marauder has so little identification on it, other than the Mercury waterfall badges. There's no Ha! Ha! The wheels seem to be a major attraction. I've noticed that people next to me at stop lights are always zooming my wheels. When people do ask me about my Marauder, they generally don't have the slightest clue as to what a Marauder even is!
*
When I first bought my Marauder, I used to get the "I think its a police car" attitude from other cars on the road. They would move over and out of my way on the highway. It was very funny. But that seems to have stopped now.
*
I was at a nearby Ford dealership today at lunch time checking out a 2006 Taurus SE that my wife wants me to buy for her. The car salesman was going nuts over my Marauder. He couldn't get over how rare it is (2004 Dark Toreador Red with Light Flynt interior-one of maybe 398 cars built with this combination), and the big cobra-type engine in it. Yes, it is definitely a keeper! Yes, if you buy it, they will look, and they will ask you all the time "what is it?".

I was stopped at an intersection one day when I heard a woman yelling, took me a minute to find where the voice was coming from (other side of the 4 lane road going the other direction) she was driving a Mustang and had come to a dead stop in the middle of the road. She said " I F###ing love your car dude!!!!".

Ive heard how fast is that cop car/ cruiser? or How much did you pay for those wheels? To many of those you all have named. It annoys me to no end though, when someone calls it a cruiser or cop car, then don't understand when I try my best to explain the difference.

I heard the same thing the day after when there were 85 in the lot. ;) And, it happened in the Bennigan's lot in April 2004 with 16 MMs enroute to Ray's "Support the Troops Cruise". Some folks just have keen powers of observation.

One of the most unique quotes -- also enroute to Ray's car show was at the I-95 Rest Stop in Delaware when a guy walked up very timidly and asked "If this gathering was part of an FBI Convention or something".

I've heard most of the above but the one that annoyed me the most was from a co-worker. This guy drives an '03 (I think) Cobra and is convinced he knows more about cars than anyone else. And so he comes up with this comment when I mention some HP upgrades I'm wanting to do:

"Why do you want to do that? It's just a family car." :fire: :mad2: :fire:

I just gave him a dirty look and walked away. If I didn't have to see him every day I would have informed him why he's a moron.

How fast is it?

Now, we've discussed this. What answer do you give? 1/4 mi times? Speedo top speed? What?

So, I did the math: 6250 RPM, .67-1 4th gear ratio, 4.10 diff ratio, 713 revs/mi (20's), 60 min/hr.

I get 189.7 as a THEORETICAL top speed. No friction, No wind resistance.

I figure 190 MPH is a good answer for someone stupid enough to ask such a vague question!!!!

How much do you want to sell it for?

You need to throw some 22's on it, to get it sittin right.

I will put it to you this way, a "CROWN VIC" is a "CV", but a "MARAUDER" is a "MM". Even though they're cousins. The "MM" is a mean, mean machine.
