View Full Version : Driveshaft clunk.
Have been hearing a clunk from what I thought was the rear. But the dealer insists its the driveshaft and are replacing it under the extended warranty next week.Car only has 10,500 miles on it.
Anyone else have this problem?

Nope. I have not found this problem in all the DS research I did.
Let us know how you make out.

The only driveshaft clunk I would expect would be from ujoints and I don't see why one would replace the entire driveshaft rather than just the ujoints.

I've been experiencing a clunk when I go into reverse.

With the car in park, go under and see if you can move the DS back and forth. If it moves, you have problem. Look at the U-joints. That is probably where the problem is.

I never had a "clunk", but had my u-joints replaced when the driveshaft was balanced at 15,000 miles.
Perhaps it is easier for the dealer to replace the driveshaft as a whole than dis-assemble and re-assemble with new u-joints.
Someone with more knowledge please feel free to chime in/correct me.

It could be even if the u-joints are bad the books tell them by part number that the entire driveshaft "assembly" should be replaced...not the most economical way of doing things but then again Ford is in financial trouble...
