I had a problem over the weekend getting the new MAF controller working. We were seeing a constant 5.0 volts from the sensors.

If you have a Diablo or SCT and can datalog, I need someone to disconnect their EGR connector (leave it hanging) and then tell me what the MAF voltage says on your datalogger.

You do NOT need to start your car with this off. Just disconnect the EGR and turn your key to the ON position without starting it. Then read the MAF voltage and let me know what you see.

I'm hoping that you also see 5.0 volts and that the ECU is putting the car in "limp home".

Why you ask? Because I just disconnected the EGR connector and tucked it out of site. Turns out the Tech Q/A site for the magic black box says that if the EGR is disconnected that the ECU will fail to read the MAF. Since we were reading the 5.0 volts via HwyCruisers Diablo, I wondered if the ECU was reporting this incorrectly because of my ignorance.

Thanks.

I can't help with the reading you want, but why not just plug the egr sensor in and see what it reads?

I couldn't wait so that's exactly what I did. Didn't change a thing. Still reads 5.0v.

So, I'm still waiting for the return tech support call.

Thanks

Zack is good, but not -this- good. It is a bad black magic box.

Bad Box, BAD BOX!

There, I feel better.

When I disconnected my EGR on the #1x, nothing changed, however, Zack may have adjusted the EEC around any problems with the software.

Sorry I cannot help you, John.

After looking at the wiring diagrams for that EEC system, it appears the DPFE and MAF have nothing in common at all. Does it read 5v when the DPFE is plugged back in? If so, you're correct - Bad Box! Also, it shouldn't make a difference if the DPFE is plugged in or not if the EGR is disabled in the tune. Of course, for aesthetic purposes, if the DPFE is removed from the car then obviously there's nothing to connect to! Before junking the box, why don't you reflash back to stock and recheck the readings on the MAF. If it is still 5v, well, time to fork over some jack. If not, it's in the tune itself. Ford computers rarely fail! You could also short to ground the MAF input to the PCM at the PCM connector and re-read the scan data to look for 0 or nearly zero volts (And no, I didn't pay attention to the pin number.). That would implicate the wiring harness being open somewhere. Wiring failure is much more likely than a PCM.

Best luck,

J

No, it's a bad box. We hooked up the original MAF meter and it read correctly. I brought this up because one of the bullet items on the tech support page for the box mentioned that it can react funny if the EGR is disconnected. If I had thought this through, then I should have gotten bad readings with the original MAF meter too. Since I didn't, I can disconnect it and play Hide the Pigtail again.

I'm waiting for my tech support call now from them to confirm I need to send it back for repair or replacement.

I'll get this running this week yet!
