View Full Version : Reverse Tail Light Problem

The problem is that the driver's side lense broke.

My brother just bought a Marauder (arriving on Monday). I guess that the SSM crew and this form rubs of on people. We are trying to convince our Dad to buy one too so that we can be a 3 Marauder Family. *Note: If anyone knows of an inexpansive DTR (Dads Fav. color) let me know.

I called The Dealer and RoyalPITA and one cannot just order a new lens. As a matter of fact, one cannot even just the driver's side reverse light since it is sold as one unit containing all both reverse lights for over $220-$240.00.

I haven't even told my brother how much this is going to cost since I would at least like him to receive the Marauder before he has a heart attack. Can anyone give me any solutions for a temp. fix? (His wife is already :mad2: b/c he told her that he would only buy the Marauder when his VW lease is up but he couldn't wait 5 more months.)

For example, would reg. Crown Vic lights work (I know they are not smoked) and are they cheaper? I couldn't find anything on ebay or HeadlightDepot.com We need a fix at least he can catch up a little on bills.

Any one have an extra lense they want to sell? Any other solutions?

I think either the CV or GM lenses would work.
Seems to me it would be cheap to find a junkyard donor to see if it would work, at least short term.
I'm thinking about trying one myself, cuz the only thing the wifey doesn't like about the MM is the backup lights aren't bright enough. (We live in a rural area)

Our tail lights are tinited and glues to the rear valance. CV's tails are white. You'll probably damage the valance trying to repair it.

Grab yourself a rear center fascia panel (includes reverse lamps/lenses) from a 98+ Crown Victoria.

Same thing, just the lamps aren't tinted. If you want to tint them get a can of VHT NiteShades from your local autparts store and a can of clear coat, apply as desired and directed in light coats.

p/n for black rear fascia with black trim:

If you want to find one used; 00+ CVPI have the blackout trim which is what you would want

Want to sell yours and use the money as partial payment for the non tinted version? Wait, never mind, you don't have any black Marauders (yet). :o

Well, you know your tail lights. I have seen all the work that you have put into yours. I will not try to repair and will just replace. Thanks for the heads up.

I know your info is very good but I got a little confused trying to understand it.

Can I pick up a "center rear fascia panel" from a 98+ Crown Vic or from a 00+ CVPI? Do you mean that all 00+ CVPI have the blackout trim while only "some" 98+ have the black trim?

Either way, thanks for all the info and part number.

I am hoping to find a cheap but the link only has tail lights and not reverse lights.

Have you tried looking for an LED replacement bulb? I googled "3156 replacement bulb" and found this one:

Any rear fascia from a 1998+ Crown Victoria or Grand Marquis will physically fit.

THe Marauder uses a tinted version of the CV fascia. The GMQ fascia is noticeably different looking witha continuous red reflector across the entire width and a chrome strip adorning the top.

98+ Civilian (non-Sport) use a body colored rear fascia with chrome trim.
1998 CVPI rear fascia is Matte black, chrome trim
1999 CVPI rear fascia is Gloss black, chrome trim
1998-1999 All Crown VIctorias will have chrome trim.
2000+ CVPIs will all have a gloss black rear fascia with black trim *unless* it is a Street Appearance Package, then chrome.
2001+ Sport Appearance Package/LX Sport CVs will have body-keyed trim with body colro rear fascia (2001 first year for SportAP/LX SPort)

Your best bet to finding a quick match is from a 2000+ CVPI, as it will be black with black trim, which is what you would want for a black MM.

All 98+ CVs will have an emblem on the LH lower corner fo the fascia. 1998 CVPIs, and all 98+ base models read "Crown Victoria", 1999+ CVPIs read "Police Interceptor", 98+ CV LX's read "Crown VIctoria LX"
All of the aforementioned emblems are secured using automotive emblem mounting foam tape, and can be easily removed with some fishing line, and some adhesive remover to remove the gunk.

Note, 2004+ Crown Victoria Fascia's will have a small dimple underneath the emblem location for alignment purposes, if the emblem is removed the small dimples will be visible.

All replacement rear fascias ordered from ford will include the correct emblem for that application.

1W7Z-13A565-AAC - LX Sport Model - black<!--color--> w/ black trim (Code UA), includes CV LX emblem
YW7Z-13A565-AA - Police Model - black w/ black trim, includes Police Intercpetor emblem

Both are the same, but different emblem. THe CVPI emblem will be easier to remove than the CV LX one as it is nice and flat/sqaure with a less dense mounting foam.

If you need any more info and I don't show up to your thread in time shoot me an email.

eBay, any junk yard that has late model CVPIs, you can also make a thread in CVN's (http://www.crownvic.net) Wanted forum. Chances are there is someone willing to let one go for cheap. :)

The link tells me that my access is denied. I am attempting to register to CrownVic.com again and hope that maybe this time they take the time to approve me.

Anyway, wow, thanks for all of the help. I honestly get the feeling that there will be no rest until we find my brother the reverse lights. LOL

Thanks!!

Get some silverstar bulbs for her. It'll help.
Also, I'd install a set of cheap fog lights (or just one) under the rear bumper before I changed the lenses.
Gimme a call if you need some help.
