Gents,

As I pulled into the garage tonight I got my low fuel light. So I changed out of my flight suit and headed to Exxon. I put in exactly 16 gallons of 93 octane @ $1.47 per gallon. It cost me $23.75. I averaged 17.9 miles per gallon on the first tank.

How are the rest of you all doing on gas mileage?

How much is the premium gas in your neck of our great country?

Thanks,

cutt

Premium 93 octane is $1.33 to $1.41 around North Atlanta.. With about 2500 miles now I am averaging 18- 19 mpg in a mix of stop and go with some 60 mph rural areas... The best so far has been about 22MPG on the interstate crusing at 75MPH.. If I could keep my foot out of it I suspect there might be another mile or two per gallon to be had...

The best so far for me is 24.9 on the hwy cruising at 70. Over all I usually get 22-23.(Limited city driving).

I don't even know where to find 93 octane here in Southern California. 91 here is 1.70 range and up.

And there's a movement afoot in our state legislature to only have one grade, 89, here in California. If that happens, our only hope will be to lower the compression ratio, and then add a blower. I favor superchargers. They come on right now when you push the go pedal. Any comments re superchargers vs. turbochargers?

93 octane around here ranges from $1.70 to $1.87. I have 4k miles on the car now, and the best tank that I've had is 20.3 mpg. The worst was 15.4 mpg. I'm averaging overall right at 16.7 mpg, with most of the driving being highway driving. I am starting to wonder why my mpg is so low, compared to everyone else.

Wags,

Are you using the reformulated gas in your area? That and the "corn" alcohol blends can really whack gas mileage...

03 Merc,
I always fill it up at Amoco. It's all 100% gas, no corn additives (so they say). My '96 Impala gets better than the MM. But, it is better than the 8 or so that I get out of the Chevelle (and that's on 100 octane racing fuel @ $3.99/gal.), so I guess I shouldn't be complaining:D

My first fill up was what ever the dealer put in.
295 miles 18.35mpg combined city/highway.
Next all highway 70-80mph 16.5 gals 22.41mpg.
$1.39 per gal at home for 91.
Still only on my 3rd tank.

Wags,

I'm not getting any better than you... around 17/mpg.

Thanks,

Piglet,

Premium around Detroit is $1.59.

Haven't calculated the mileage on the MM yet - first tank wasn't a fill up, next tank was done in Canada using Imperial Gallons - but the current tank, when refilled, should give a good picture of mixed highway/city driving. I'm hoping to break 20, anyway. I get 24 on my Cherokee.

I don't know what JP4 is going for these days :)

I don't know if the MM is affected by RFG like the Impala is, but it seems normal to lose 20-25% of your fuel economy when running RFG in the Impala.

Where I live, only the red area gasoline affects me. The yellow and brown areas give normal fuel economy.

Tells me where I need to go to get the "GS"

I am not quite sure what this map means, but I live in the area marked blue in Southern California. RFG must mean reformulated, but what does that mean? Is it affecting my car's performance? And what is CBG?

Amocco is always suposed to be 100% petrol. My friends dad is an exe for the american branch of BP and he confirms it to his knowledge. All I know is my 'vic runs happier with it then anything else except the few mobil places aroun here that have 95 for the lambo/porsche owners in this areas.

warrior, which stations are selling 95? I live in the same area...

Close to the airport there a few mobils on 114 I've seen with the 95. They're the ones that have 5 handle pumps, cause they got 4 grades of unleaded and then diesel. They usually say it on the sign for pricing too so its easy to spot, I can never find one specifically when I'm looking before a roadtrip tho...

Wonder if theres anywhere we can find out...I'll try finding it online...

I'm gonna go look... :)

A quick check reveals mobil isn't the one making 95 octane, so it must be independant stations.

I shall find them dammit.

Hey Logan,

Just get one of those lawn care sprayer trucks, drive up here to IL, and load up on 100 octane stuff. We can still get it around here at a few stations. :D

P.S. - I'm selling the Impala if anyone is interested. I need the funds for my '55 project.
