"I was on my way home from work last night MMOB of course and came to a light on a 6 lane road. I noticed some blue headlights coming up behind me and it turns out to be a c6 vette. On the other side of him pulls up a Mercury Marauder. Instantly I get my car ready to launch because I knew it was on. The light turned green and we all launched, my launch being the worst because of my poor bald nittos. I fishtailed slightly to the right and then to the left staying within the confines of my lane and still slightly pulled on both cars despite the poor traction. When my car hooked I felt safe enough to look over, and to my astonishment the corvette was falling back about a carlength but the marauder was ahead of him and almost even with me. When my auto shifted into 2nd, I started to pull pretty hard on them leaving the maurader about 2 lengths behind before I shut her down. After the race the maurader driver pulled up next to me and told me that he had a vortech supercharger system, headers, and exhaust done, and I told him about the car that just beat him. Cool guy and very fast for a car that heavy.........but not fast enough last night!"

I have raced a few lately.....but no GTO's yet
The trans am Ws6 saw taillights in a matter of 2 seconds
The brand new charger Hemi saw taillights also, I never spun a tire.
I was even running my hot weather tune(down 2 degrees)

But it wasn't me, its a big state, and there are a few Reinhart Vortech cars floating around the state.

A GTO can get a stock MM from a standing start, but not from a rolling start. A vortech S/C MM? No freakin way.

Im sure him telling the MM owner about the car that just beat him meant it was far from stock.

I raced a GTO at the track in Atlanta at the last Shootout, I think it was stock, he ran 13.6 @ 102 mph. I don't think it's possible for a stock GTO to beat ANY blown Marauder, except for a short race from a dead stop, that is possible.

Ok, I love our cars but I guess I don't have that much faith. I do believe a stock GTO would kill a stock Marauder from a dead stop or even from a roll. It does not matter if it's an A4, M6, LS1, or LS2.

Also I would say it's a drivers race with a Vortech MM and no other Mods vs a LS2 M6. What would a Marauder with nothing more than a Vortech run? High 12's low 13's?

It's ALWAYS a driver's race. However, I have first hand experience side by side with a GTO at country road/highway speeds. He couldn't pull away, but I did a little (very little). He seemed like a good driver and we later exchanged respect and niceties at a stop light.

At that time I had only JLT and tune.

Just my experience, FWIW.

Do you know if it was an Auto or Manual or an LS1 or LS2? A tune and intake is a big wake up for these cars so I could see it, especially if it was an A4 LS1. But I'm very skeptical that a stock Marauder could do the same. Congrats on that run with the GTO I guess I need to put a little more faith in n/a Marauders.

I don't think such a car exists, but I believe it would be 13's not 12's.

I wonder what year GTO it was? 04's had 350HP which could run 0-60 in 5.3 seconds and 1/4 mile in about 14 seconds. 05's & 06's had 400HP which should improve these times a little. I think the weight is around 3900 lbs. An S/C Marauder should have been able to take it.

I got the honor of lining up next to an LS2 w/6speed gearbox at a TnT in Bradenton a year ago. He ran a 13.56 and I only heard him shift once! He might have hit third, but I was so far behind that I couldn't tell. That number is etched in my mind because I had to stare at it for two seconds while finishing my run! Mind you I don't have a MM, but that car kicked some butt... Especially mine!
