I am in the process of succumbing to the urge to put Ford Racing 4.10's, girdle and stud bolts in my Marauder. However, I am uncertain as to where I should order these items from. I am concerned that if I order from a vendor in the States, that I will get hit with significant brokerage and shipping fees. For those in Canada who have purchased the above, from where did you make your purchase, and how did it work out as far as shipping time and cost, etc?
Thanks

Check here for a dealer near you:
http://www.fordracingparts.com/home/home.asp
Or check DR's web site, I'm sure he'll ship north of the border.

Try shopping around at some local performance parts shops, they usually stock those parts, that is unless they cater to imports exclusively. If you're in Alberta, you could try Mopac or Western Motorsports. In Ontario, there's Sean Hyland Motorsports. I've dealt with these companies before and I would recommend them, their prices are usually a fair bit lower than dealership prices.

I purchased my 4.10's from my local Ford Dealer and they installed - cost wasn't that bad, for me, and basically a wash with the cost from US+shipping (I do get a discount, though). The 4.10's require a tune. My XCal2 + Tune came from Lidio (http://www.alternativeauto.com). I did not have to pay brokerage, when I received it via CanadaPost<?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" /><v:shapetype id=_x0000_t75 coordsize="21600,21600" o:spt="75" o:preferrelative="t" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" filled="f" stroked="f"> ;)</v:shapetype> <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:nono: I'll put it this way - I live 1-hour away from him. I know there must be a few people that have dealt with SHM and had good results. :nono: I'll put it this way - I live 1-hour away from him. I'm thinking of getting one.

Thanks for the responses guys. I had tried contacting a few Ford dealers that stock Ford racing parts for a price quote, but they did not call back as they had indicated they would.
I have a few additional related questions. What are the odds that a 4.10 gear swap will have an adverse affect on the stock Marauder drive shaft? I'm not inclined to swap out the drive shaft, so I thought I would inquire prior to getting ahead of myself.
In regards to an after market axle girdle. I realize that they are a good idea; however, are they necessary for a N/A Marauder? I have seen GMS axle girdles advertised for a good price that claim to inlcude all of the hardware. I assume then that buying a seperate stud kit would not be necessary. Is anyone familair with the quality of GMS parts?
Also, and this may be a dumb question, but I have seem the part number for the Ford Racing 4.10 ring and pinion set advertised with 2 different letters at the end. I believe one listed an "A" at the ned, and the other an "M". Difference?
Thanks

Well, I have no experience with SHM dyno tuning or engine building, as I'm a little more than a short drive away. The only thing I've recieved from him is modular engine parts and performance parts. His prices are sometimes super cheap or really expensive, therefore shopping around is nesessary. His price on gears aren't too bad, but I bought mine locally at Mopac for $270, the dealership prices are just under $400 here. Too many people making too much money in Alberta, they overpay for everything here. An example is the new GT500, it's being sold for $100 000 at one dealership in Edmonton because people will pay that kind of money for it.

Hey I just did my gear last week and the increased RPM's of the stock driveshaft caused a noticeable and very annoying vibration @ 70-77 M.P.H. but it would smooth out @ 80mph. If you took it up to anything over 100mph it felt like it was gonna blow... I was lucky enough to have to go to Fla on bussiness and I had Dennis Reinhart install one of his driveshafts...So I spent $170 gear on ebay....169 Mosler diff girdle....$300 labor install gear....custom driveshaft installed w/tax about $500...Royal Purple synthetic gear oil $30....The new enjoyment my MM gives me now ....PRICELESS...

I have a few additional related questions. What are the odds that a 4.10 gear swap will have an adverse affect on the stock Marauder drive shaft? It can be hit-or-miss. Due to the subject of Driveline Critical Speed (found here ( http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=5163&highlight=driveline+critical+s peed)) it is strongly recommended that you replace the driveshaft if you do a lot of "spirited" highway driving. Some people have done without and experienced no issues.
In regards to an after market axle girdle. I realize that they are a good idea; however, are they necessary for a N/A Marauder?Necessary? No, but since you have to take it all apart to do the gears anyway, it's cheap insurance. Same thing for the stud kit...
