Their new out and has anyone tried them? I've thought about getting them, they look to be brighter than regualr silverstar blubs and articles I've read up on them say "Silverstar ULTRA for Ultra Night Vision - The Whitest and Brightest Halogen made by Sylvania". Half of my driving trips are at night so whatever can make me see better I'm all about.

Will there be a wiring issue with these new bulbs? The HIDs will melt our OEM wiring - just curious about these. I have to pull my lens covers off to dust them anyway - it's driving me crazy looking at them with the HLs on. Maybe I'll replace them while I'm at it.

Real HIDs actually draw less power (35 watts) than stock bulbs (60/70 watts) so wiring isn´t an issue. I have HIDs and the wiring stays cool even after over an hour of driving with them on.

As for these, I´m curious to try a set in my Van when my regular SilverStars go.

Then perhaps it is the plastic housing that melted on one of our member's MMs? I just remember a heat issue.

As for swapping these out, I can do this and the rock protectors at the same time I clean the dust and crap from the inside of my lenses!

Sounds like a fun Saturday project.

I just found this:

These are new and supposedly be brighter and last longer than regular Silverstars. They retail for $50

The are $44.99 at Pepboys B&M. Pepboys is offering a $15 rebate. And Sylvania is offering a $10 rebate. Yes I checked and these are two different rebates. The Pepboys rebate does not require a UPC and the Sylvannia does.

$44.99
-$15 (pepboys rebate, no upc & copy of receipt, rebate form given at register)
-$10 (sylvania rebate, need upc & original receipt, rebate form online)
______________________________ _____________

= $19.99 final price

pepboys until 10/28/06: http://pepboys.shoplocal.com/pepboys...PepBoys-061015

rebate from sylvania: http://www.sylvania.com/content/disp...x?id=003691915

I've had the regular Silvserstars for a couple of years....love them.
Usually if these burnt out early, you touched the glass installing them.
I'm going to try the new Ultra in my Trailblazer SS.

Make sure you print out the coupon special from the net and take it to the store.
I just called the nearest Pep Boys and they were not aware of this sale.
She said bring in the info and no problem.

Wow - for $20 I'm all over this. Thanks.

EDIT: Neither link works, though. Will have to search on my own.

Was their a noticeble difference between the regular silverstars and the ultras? When I put in my regular silverstars it was like a night and day difference. They seem pricey but you can't put a price on safety, the better and more you can see the better chance you have to avoid things.

What was the turn signal and fog lamp blub number if you remember? I'd defenitley like to upgrade the fogs if nothing else.

I went from factory bulbs to the Ultras, that was a noticeable differance. The fogs are (H1) and the cornering lights (i think) are 3157. GO TO Sylvania web site it tells you what your car needs AND there is a printable $10 rebate to mail in!! I sent mine in but have to wait for it now. Good luck.
PS get the clear corner bulbs and the brighter fogs so they match the bright headlights!

I just bought a set of these for my '91 Escort (of Doom) as one of the headlights went out. I didn't have the regular SilverStars in her before so I can't tell you how much brighter these are than the previous model SS's, but they are a LOT brighter than the stock originals.

Now if I could figure out how to get more than 88hp out of my daily driver. Does Trilogy have an S/C for the Ford 1.9 I4? :D

Here's a Pep Boys link that should work for the Silverstar Ultra. You'll need to print that page to take to the store.

I did a quick photo comparison between my stock bulbs and the silverstar ultras.

The ultras aren't much, if any, brighter, but they do produce a much better white color.

Be very careful about melting the wiring harness. I had a pair of street glow bulbs and within 4 months it melted and caused electrical damage.

Aha! Maybe this is what I was remembering. I have the regular silverstars, and for the price I think I will wait for mine to burn out before upgrading. The ultras are not the "night and day" difference over stock, so I'm wondering if they will even be an improvement over my regular Silverstars. They are obviously brighter, but so are the ones I already have.

Could just be a new Coke formula . . .

I agree with you, I'm going to wait until my blubs go then replace with the ultras. The silverstars have been good so far so why not try something that is just an improvement on a already good product. I do disagree, the ultras a big difference over the stock, I can look at the pic and make out a lot more detail on the concrete, like its texture. But that is JMHO, maybe I'll just use the ultras in my fog lamps since they are still oems.

Duhtroll, what are "HID's". I have not replaced my stock bulbs, but in reading your comment am wondering if any have had problems such as you mentioned, in overheating wiring, or any other component of the light fixture?
Thanks.

Excuse my previous question about has anyone had or heard of overheating damage, i had not read all of these posts. But i am curious as to if anyone else has had or heard of overheating damage. And Matt's photos certainly do show a dramatic difference in the color of the lights, if not brightness, between stock and Ultras. Does this actually help noticeably in distance visibility?

They will be a good improvement over stock, but so are the regular Silverstars, so I was expecting a bit more difference from the examples here.

Of course if you get both rebates they'll be cheap.
