Planning on purging the 4.6 in lieu of an SHM 5.2 shortblock. Question: At $1800 core charge, would my stock shortblock be worth more to someone intact and sell it to help cover the cost of the core charge, or just send them the core and be done with it? not sure what a stock MM shortblock could resell for.

SHM 5.2 humm...you need to do more homework

If I am not mistaken you have a long block in your marauder

Complete Marauder engines can be found for 2K and up.

I haven't heard of any short block only sales, but I got a good guess from peeking here...

I suppose a running shortblock with mild mileage may be worth 5-6 hundred bucks?

At that rate, Sarg, I'm definitely better off getting the core rebate and parting out the spare internals. At 310 rwhp with my current N/A set-up, I'm quite eager to get the all forged 5.2 in place so I can bolt on my Trilogy (or Reinhart, depending on my mood).

Listen, I dont know you personally, but hear this.
If you buy anything from SHM, you are an idiot.
Go to VT or Proline for the good stuff.

I had been watching the SHM thread to see how it resolved. Two months ago it just sort of "Dried Up". Was wondering what became of it. I only considered SHM because a friend of mine was in engineering there. He has since left, so I feel no great loyalty to them.
Honestly, all I've wanted was a Ford 5.0 cammer, but sadly can't buy it in short block form. Therefore, I turned to other suppliers. I'm always open to ideas, but would like to deal with the most reputable firm available. To me, that was Ford, until they couldn't even tell me how I buy the pistons and rods to go with their 5.0 cammer block. Not great service, in my opinion. If they'd had the parts to build my own short block, I'd have bought everything from them.
All suggestions are welcome, and it doesn't matter if you know me or not (Zack). You can still call me an idiot. I have pretty thick skin :)

Well you have our control arms, so you're obviously pretty smart. :D

You should also check BBB.com for info on whoever you go with.

Email your questions to Jim O'Neil. He currently works at Ford as a powertrain developmental engineer. He worked with Jerry W. for many years. You want to know what to do for an engine setup? Jim currently works and has worked for years designing and testing the all the Ford powerplants. I can tell you from experience he's great to work with. You'd be shortchanging yourself if you don't speak to him. You can contact him at: fastford@peoplepc.com

 ¿ Which are the differences between the short block than the long one ?

Short block has no heads. Long block has heads and timing chains added to the short block. Complete engine has timing cover, oil pan, manifolds added to the long block.

Essentially the stages you can purchase are:
- Bare block
- Short block
- Long Block
- Crate Engine

Each has more bits and pieces added as FordNut outlines. The "Crate" engines are typically a turn-key item.

Mitch: Your buddy is quite the go-getter. He's talking about pricing up a shortblock for me that he would put together himself. How does that sound to you?

I have given you Jim's credentials and it would only be fair for me to say that I believe you would be pleased with whatever he does for you. Many other discriminating racers have. Jim really knows modular engines.

If Jim worked with Jerry W. then he knows his *****...

I had Jerry W. dyno tune my Marauder and WOW...

These guys know there stuff...

Its an honor to get a short block built in those conditions...

What is he putting in it cuz Im building a short block in conjunction with a local engine shop right now...
and like I said I'd like to build it similar to the cammer shortblock but interested in what package your getting...
What will the details on the guts of the motor be...?

Well, then, I'll look forward to hearing back from him. This could get interesting.
