My MM just turned 41,000 miles. I pulled all of my plugs yesterday and they are all black. No oil on the plugs or anything they were all just coated with a black sutty coating. Is this normal for the plugs at this mileage? I am going to change the plugs tomarrow, I do have the lidio tune and was wonering if the black coating is a result of a rich a/f ratio? Does anybody have suggestions as to which plugs I should go for? All I have is the lidio tune, Im not running a stat.
Thanks, Matt

Black deposits usually mean your running rich. Other than wasting gas, running rich with an all aluminium engine is better than running lean. I'm using NGK TR6's which are one heat range colder than stock.

Okay, Cool. Just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong. Is being one heat rance colder than stock alright for me with my stock T stat? Im just not too aware of how a colder plug would work with the stock stat. Thanks again

I think you'll be OK. If you want the same heat range as stock get the NGK TR51GP (platinium) or NGK TR55IX (iridium).

Why not just use OEM Motorcraft plugs? They're excellent plugs and reasonably priced.
That said, however, I've used Autolites on all of my Crown Vics and had excellent success with them. Some say they're identical to the Motorcrafts, but I'm not an expert on them so I don't know for sure. The copper Autolites are $1 each and the platinum Autolites are $2 each at my local Walmart.
Personally, I'm going to use Motorcraft plugs when I change them on my Marauder in December.

I run OEM Motorcraft plugs. I also change them every 10k. They're inexpensive, and it takes me 2 years to rack that kind of milage.:P
I am tuned for a cooler plug. See my sig/vBgarage for the Motorcraft part number if you choose cooler.
Local auto parts stores will stare at you in confusion if you present them with this number. Call Ray...wholesale and zero hassle.;)
I used AGSF22C which is now SP505
