For some odd reason, the rear tires seem to wear faster than the fronts, on all my vehicles... I wonder why? :burnout:

So the fronts will last for quite some time, but the rears were in really rough shape. I know most here go with the BFG KDW2, but I was searching for a compromise between performance and all-season capabilities... I ended up going with a pair of Goodyear Eagle ResponsEdges (255-55-18). Linky-linky (http://www.goodyear.ca/goodyeartireselectorca/display_tire.jsp?prodline=Eagl e+ResponsEdge&mrktarea=Performance&treadwidth=255&aspectratio=55&rimdiameter=18&sidewall=VSB)

Here they are, ready to be mounted on the wheels:

I haven't had a chance to really test these out yet - It's been raining off-and-on, since I installed them... One thing's for sure, these tires DEFINITELY handle the wet roads better than the stock BFGs. Eevn at a deadstop in the rain, I have to really press down the throttle to kick in the traction control. Hopefully, dry traction will also impress me as much.

The installer put 40# in the tires, but that seems high, to me. Temps are about 40-45 right now, so once they heat up, that pressure must be going high than that, too. For those with 255-55-18's on back, what tire pressure do you go with?

In the meantime, here are some quick pictures (sorry for quality - it's just my camera phone):

PS - What would a tire replacement thread be, without a burnout on the old hides:

I have a set on my Audi and I am impressed. Actually, I think that they handle better than the car in a way. I go around a corner and I don't lose anything, but after the corner the car sets down. It may mean I need new shocks.

They look nice. BTW, thanx for the footage.

Is there a size available for the front?

Nice, but what's the price? I went with BFG KDW2s instead of other options because the other options available at the time were considerably more expensive.

Tire Rack has them for $164 plus delivery.

Not a bad price. Those may be my next set of tires.

^^^^^Have to agree. Decent price and the reviews are mostly favorable. We'll be giving up the rake, but at least you can rotate.

Dennis R referred to them as 'Grippy' after driving my car.

Nah, use 555's up front. I have this combo and LOVE it!

There is not, but my fronts have a lot more life left in them. Next time I replace the rears, the fronts will be done at the same time... Then I'll search out a matching set.

In terms of cost, yes, they were a little more expensive than the BFGs, but I wanted something that could handle a few trips through a light dusting of snow, if needed.

Goodyear has the Eagle RS-A in the correct size for the front. They also have a run-flat version, Eagle RS-A EMT

Long time member, first time poster...

I have tires coming in for mine today...I went with the responsedge 255/55 for the rear ($159) and unfortunately went back to the OEM's for the front. I considered the responsedge 255/45 for the front but they were $200+ each from TireRack. The BFG KDWS's were $99 on special. Hopefully I can get the responsedges up front eventually, maybe they'll start making a size closer to stock or maybe [gasp] the actual stock size for the front. I am happy to have a little meatier look in the back though.

BTW, I love this site - I hope to have more posts soon and maybe some pics of the tires.

Long live the Marauder.

I've heard good things about those tires with regards to traction and 'stiffness' etc, but have heard they tend to be a bit noisy. Let us know how they run in the dry, etc :)

Turns out TireRack has a warehouse here in GA, I ordered them Monday morning and they arrived Tuesday morning!

I'll probably have to wait until Friday to get them mounted. I'll let you guys know how it goes, pics, etc.

I would definitely use them if the 255/55/18 wouldn't screw up the speedometer. I paid too much for this car to have a ghetto messed up speedometer -- I leave that for my old cars! One day when I have a tuner...

Luckily the difference in diameter is only about 0.43" since the aspect ratio isn't changing. Which means the car will raise half of that (~0.21") in the rear and fill the other half in the wheelwells. Overall you're looking at about 694 revs/mile with the Responsedge and 705 revs/mile with the BFG's. So you're looking at a 1.56% difference in your speedometer reading (slower than actual speed). No big deal there.

Not a big deal I guess, it always bugs me when I know the speedo is not right though, that is closer than I thought though. HMMMMMM. Are those goodyears SUV tires like the Kumhos or really designed for a passenger car?

What's funny is by the time you wear down about 7/32 of tread on the Responsedge you will almost have the equivalent diameter of a new OEM BFG...and the Responedge will probably still outlast it.....

No, I don't work for Goodyear!

You know what, I would totally get them, but I don't want mixed and matched tires -- that can cause dangerous situations when one set resists hydroplaning better or one set gives up traction first.

****e! I really want to get rid of the god awful KDWs and almost thought I had an answer. I guess I could run 255/55s on all 4 .... hmmm...

Do you plan on going four wheeling?

If you have the money, a Responsedge 255/45-18 up front would work, that's what my original plan was but the fronts were more than twice as much as the OEM BFG. I did the math on those, we would keep the raked look and shouldn't trip the ABS light. Overall car height would raise about 0.3" (not bad) and have a little more rubber tucked in the fenders.

Are you kidding me? Uh no. A barge this massive can certainly use the rubber on the road.

I was talking about the aspect ratio, not running 255's up front.

I have the KDW2s for 30,000 miles now and they really are wearing great. Did the Carfixers wheel alignment recommendation and its been right on the money. No inside front tread wear like original specs caused. I run at 36 psi pressure. Like driving with duck tape on the tires. Really stick good but I've noticed they sound like snow tires as they age, that is, noisy. Probably because of the cut of the tread which is a cross cut. Don't know if I would get again only because I prefer a quiet tire but so far the wear has been awesome. Plenty of tread still left. Expect at least 50K or more at the rate I'm going.

I have these tires on another one of my cars and I love them. I never thought about the noise until tonight, darn you. They do make noise on freeway buttons and joints. Oh well. I really like them, They are stiff enough that I notice the lack of action by the shocks. I'm not sure about the rain performance because I haven't really pushed them in the rain. If they had the right size I wouldn't hesitate to put them on the MM. Cheers.

I finally got some pics so you guys can see what the 255/55's look like out back. So far (~1000mi) they have been great tires - wet or dry, great grip, very quiet! Goodyear should definitely make these in our OEM front size. Until then I've got the same BFG's up front.

Would this tire in 245/45R18 work for the FRONTS without tripping (TC/ABS)? I would be running 255/55/R18's for REARS. I've heard good things about these tires!

Tire Rack has quite a deal going. Check 1010 Tires - over $300 each. Seems if you want these, now is the time. I'm looking real hard at them myself.

What's the treadwear rating on those tires? I'm getting kinda tired of replacing tires every 20,000 miles or so.
