If you use non OEM Wheels and Tires while at the track, what is it???

I am considering a set of CVPI Stealies and a set of 26x11.5x16 DOT Slicks.

I am just wanting to know what other options are available.

CVPIs are only 7" wide, so you really can't use them with an 11.5 tire. I bought a pair of black Cragar Soft 8 rims, 16x8", and put my 28x11.5-16 Hooiser QTPs on them. Best part is the rims are $50 each, and allow the use of the stock CVPI lugs, so I could snap the center cap back on for a stealth OEM look.

Oh yeah, and they hook like MAD!

What is the offset for your wheels?

The Crager Soft 8s won't have a suitable offset for 03+ panthers. The wheel/tire will likely stick out beyond the fenderwell.

The Marauder wheels are still the widest OEM panther rims, at 8"

A 2005+ s197 Mustang wheel can be used on a 2003+ panther w/o spacers, and is the correct offset. You can get these in wider variations, and aftermarket offerings as well to support larger width tires.

KillJoyBarry has my 26X11.5 ET Street "cheater" slicks, on Mustang rims. They fit the car fine for racing, but will stick out, and also trip ABS/TC alarms.

They also exhibt control issues at the 1/8 mile, unless you trade out the front tires for a likewise bias ply "track only" tire. Before you invest in a purchase, head down to US.42 with Barry and give them a test ride?

Great bite, my lowest 60 foot was 1.61 on them, but the 1/8 mile ride was a real control trip, and I never got faster that a 12.7x ET, 'cause I had to feather the throttle late in the pass. The ride was enough for me to give them away, and opt for a four corner solution. I sold the car before I got to a resolution on this. Perhaps Barry has more 1/8 intestinal fortitude that I?

Good luck and be careful?

I thought that is what he had chillin there. He also has a set of DR's.... I believe. Hopefully he'll chime in.

I know there has got to be at least ONE person here running something else...perhaps taller than 26".

Why would the 03+ make the wheel stick out? Is the overall axle wider? I've never noticed that, but then again, I've never measured the two for comparison. I know the frame/control arm setup is the same.

The Marauder has the outboard shocks, and the thin rolled wheel well. My CVPI has no shocks on the outside of the frame, and wide wheel lips. So I was able to use an offset that moved my rim in closer to the frame. If the MM axle is wider, the rim I used might be just the ticket. Of course, I went with the Soft 8 because I just wanted a cheap black steel rim to simulate the stock CVPI look. There are plenty of other rims out there in different sizes.

Mac is right on about control issues. I use 28x11.5x16 and it takes full concentration to hold the car straight past the 1/8-mile maker. This mod is not for everyone. Over compensate and you will find yourself on the wall.

What size wheels have you ran with this sized tire?

Mustang 2001 16x7.5 - 5 bolt 4.5 pattern. You can find them for around 150.00 and cheaper on E-Bay.

Yes, the 03+ rear axle is wider. This is mainly because the front suspension revisions for 2003+ required more space, thus the high positive offset wheels were used (03+ use an almost flat wheel face, -02 have a dish)

Ah, good to know. That would explain those ugly assed flat wheels on the 03+ CVPI.

Never had a sway problem with the 28x11.5x16 M/T Et Streets, but did with 26x10.5x15 et streets. probaBly because we had to use a lower tire press to get the traction with the smaller tire. we have the 28's on a 16" v6 mustang wheel, fit just right. if you get a wheel from like a ranger it will hang out the side of the fender a little. we also have run 1.68 60' on the 28's and so has merc he was using our tires in atlanta.

Merc, you only had the sway problem on the 26" tall tires At MIR. Correct?
