Those "most stolen" and "most frequently stolen" lists have always been confusing.

National (US) average is 2.6 stolen per 1000 vehicles, per year. If Marauders were average (which they are not), that would come to about 29/year. Anti-theft devices, garaging when not in use, and lower than average mile/year would all push that down, while theft desireability would push that up. Location also matters. National average is 500 thefts per 100,000 population, but Vegas and a few other cities are up around 1300/100,000.

Cadillac Escalade 4WD, often near the top of the list for frequency, is around 10/1000, or 4X average. If Marauders are at 2X national average, or 5/1000, that means around 50/year.

Which is 50 too many. So, understand the high risk theft locations: shopping malls, movie theater complexes, and airport and communter train station parking lots.

Drive safe (and park safe) out there.

I think you will find this is based on the # of veh's produced.IE.100 veh produced and 10 stolen =10% 1000 veh's produced and 100 stolen =10%--which one had more veh's stolen??

Man, I think they covered every year Integra from '94 up.

Out here, it's not safe to own an Acura TL; there's thousands of the doggoned things running all over this island...makes 'em easy to steal. Car thieves can hide in plain sight. Same goes for Subaru Foresters.

Interesting to see the '03 MMs are on the list now...last time I saw a MM on the Most Stolen list, they only had the '04s. I was always kinda mystified by that; there's no particular external differences between the '03s and '04s save for a slight change in paint colors.

Like the other boys said, its a numbers game. I understand that more 03's disappeared than 04's, but there were 3 times as many 03's made/sold.

Who the hell steals a Suzuki Aerio? If you're gonna go to jail - don't be humiliated when you get there.

Everyone just look up the posts from last year when these lists, published by the insurance lobbyists, showed up. I think we all know this is just a smoke-n-numbers game.

Yeah, I asked this same question the last time this thread was made. Why are Suzuki's on the list? I'd think they'd be one of the plainest, most undesirable vehicles on the road. Is there something I'm missing about these cars?

Yes, that is odd.
#3 for 2004 Mercury Marauder #16 for 2003 Mercury Marauder

I guess Marauder thieves want the moonroof?

Insurance on '03s I doubt is much less as a result of these numbers though.

You got it Big Guy....... Statistics can prove anything you want them too. Got to consider the sources of stories like these. Investigating the statistics then building the story is what creates credibility, instead of bs.
