My father-in-law owns a 64 merc monterey marauder that has been in his garage since he stopped driving it in '83. After convincing him that this car should be back "out there",there are some changes he wanted to make which is why he parked it and pulled the original 390.(which he still has.) Aside from the usual bottom rear quarters being rusty and the interior needing some tlc it is pretty much intact. He actually wanted to drop a 427 in at the time, but after raising 6 kids-one of which I married-he never got around to it,and I convinced him that even if one would squeeze in, at this point I didn't think he would find one. If anyone out there knows where he could get a good high performance big block drive train compatable with his ride,we would appreciate it.He's a good guy and deserves to have some fun with his old "family car".Info on where to get good stock appearing interior stuff will help too! Im glad there's a forum for people like us!

What city are you in? I would build you a engine out of your 390, it can be as bad as you want it. The FE is an awsome engine for power and is reliable. They don't cost any more to build than 460 or small block. We specialize in FE builds, see my web site too. A 390 stroker can be built to more than a 427 for power level and you could save $$$ that way. Let me know if I can help you out.:D

Good luck wiht the rebuild. The 390 is a great engine. Don't mess with the 427. They are very expensive to build. My Brother has one in his '69 Mach 1.

Oh, and I believe Buffalo, NY is the THE RUST BELT !

I have a '65 Thunderbird Landau that needs her 390 rebuilt. I hope to do it this coming spring.

FE's are great motors and have only blown up one. The one I have now is dependable as hell and I beat on it at will whenever I feel the need. Money is the deciding factor on how far you will want to build it. Check out the FE Forum for any other information you might want, and also the Yahoo site for classic mercury marauders.

Check sources like 'Dennis Carpenter' for parts.

Get yourself a copy of Hemmings Motor News, and I'm sure you'll find a source for interior.
