The dealer that does all my service has quoted me 3-3.5 hrs for installing a remote starting unit. I'm clueless, does this sound reasonable?

Yep. Sounds about right.
A dedicated alarm installer might be faster, but that time is reasonable.

Strictly a remote start only? Or a complete security system with keyless entry and trunk release? The dealer has vehicle-specific "T-harnesses" that negate the need to cut and splice so that time frame is great (but likely flat-rate). It takes me 4-6 hours to do a complete vehicle security system with hood protection and remote start with taking into account the various resistors and diodes needed and I have done this for 19 years. It took me two hours to do the full alarm on Tom's (MarauderTJA) 2003 Focus SVT this morning with all the goodies. He was a happy camper and took me out for lunch.

The dealership probably subs this out to an alarm installer anyway. I had a remote start put on my wife's Escape since it sits out in the cold. Since I've had a ton of work done there already, my service manager and I worked it out so I dealt directly with the vendor without having to pay the service department's markup, and they even did the install in the dealership's shop. It was about $200-250 parts + labor with new FOBs. It isn't a Ford remote start but it works as advertised.

The dealership will be doing the work themselves. The nice thing is they allow me to buy the parts myself if I can get them cheaper and they will do the install. The remote start I'm using is a OEM product I obtained from a Ford parts distributor in Texas at a substantial savings ($164 for unit and PATS interface). They're labor rate is also good, $55 hr. I'm talking small rural dealer, two wrenchs, the only people I trust my Marauder to.

I installed one of theses http://www.designtech-intl.com/ You'll need another MM key and the Universal Alarm Bypass Interface. I got mine at Advanced Auto Parts.

The remote start is in and works fine. The install cost me more than originally quoted as the tech found a wiring issue that caused him to install two relays for using the HVAC with the remote.

I had one istalled way back in September of '02. yep! First thing I did to the car, too much leather and way too cold in the winter:) I was lucky to get a code-A- alarm which Ford used for years. Now they use another Company.
Remote start with all chirps and beeps silenced.
