View Full Version : Is this really a warranty issue?

On the question of mods - aftermarket chips, aftermarket pulleys, aftermarket... anything, I guess, I can see where people may be concerned about warranties being affected. But does changing gears really affect your warranty? If you buy Ford gears, have your FML dealer install them, it sure seems like it should not be a detriment to your warranty. Should it? Any FML mechanics out there, I'd sure love your input, thanks!!!

"The difference between theory and practice in practice is greater................" Holy S-it, way too much for my poor blonde brain to process, anyway, depends on the mods, check the threads, like Mad-3R I believe who have had troubles with dealerships and certain mods.

MAD4:
In theory (heh), ANY modification to your car from the way it was delivered CAN void the warranty, if the dealer (or Ford) chooses to push the issue. My dealer refused to do the 4.10s in my car, even if I bought the parts from him and had his wrenches do the work because "the car didn't come with 4.10s from the factory". Another local member, on the other hand, found a dealer near where he lives that did the work AND claims they'll back the warranty...
So you tell me. There is absolutely ZERO consistency in the way warranties are handled...

I can't see how a dealer could deny warranty coverage if the breakdown has no connection to the modification. A gear swap to 4.10's wouldn't be the cause of a fuel injection problem or front end problem. However, if something happened to the drive train or related components, the dealer could deny coverage if he knew of the gear change. Bottom line - it's all about $$$$

If the dealer and FMC deny your claim you will have to file a law suit and that can cost you big bucks. Time and money are on their side. IMHO.
