I picked up an old 1948 ford truck with a flat head eight cyl. engine, and was trying to remove plugs when I snapped one off, too much of a hurry. I soaked it with liquid wrench but didn't wait long enough, I guess. Anyone know how to get threads out without having to remove the head, Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a set of Craftsman's Screw Out, or a set of Tap Outs?
That would be my suggestion.

I would just take the head off, drill the plug and use an easy out bit on it to get whats left of the plug out, then run a tap to clean up the threads. Since the valves are in the block, its an easy job to remove the heads on a flathead.

Try to use a nailpunch or thin enough drift to go on a part of the broken peice you can grab with the tool. Use a hammer and try to tap it out that way. Sometimes once the bolt head is broken off there isn't much torque holding the remaining peice in and you can simply tap it out.
Hope that was an OK description...
If that doesn't work give an extractor a try!

I'll agree with your advice here, the heads on a flathead are just thick plates of metal. Just be careful that you don't break the head bolts as well.
