Ok, its been raining hard here in Fl and I had to drive through an area that had high water. Once the rain cleared up in my area I noticed a nice half filled fog light. Arent these water tight??? Ok, I already went to the dealer and parts are on order, but WTF. :depress: Becareful guys and gals driving through water.

I would guess that fog lamps have to handle a much higher heat load (55w to 100w bulbs) than tail lights (25w?) and are made of more heat resistant material.

I only drive my merc on nice days but have been caught in the rain a time or two. I have noticed the fog lights fog up and the headlight assembly as well, they are not water tight, yes I know this has been in past discussion's also. One more thing I just want to vent about is the quality of paint (again past discussions) it really sucks thin around the rear door edges, other than that it is a blast to drive! Very poor quality when it comes to final inspections before dealers take delivery.

Water condensation in the fog lites (your case-alot) and in the headlamps is typical on these vehicles. Also typical on ALL gran marquis, lincoln ls, and towncar........
It has nothing to do with the VEHICLE MANUFACTURER, the lamp assemblies are made by a third party for FMC. Obviously they are not consistant with the manufacturing process.
These items are under full warranty, and are greatfully replaced upon request from the dealer. Pain in the a$$ factor is low.
I've replaced both fronts on my MM, and both fronts, twice, on my LS. The LS has a 7 yr. bumper to bumper warranty, and currently the MM has a 3yr. until I extend it, which I will.
Keep your head up, it's still a great car, and NOT a dime a dozen.

I've not had a problem with water or fogging in any of my lenses. The fogs do pick up a lot of road film though. Count yourself lucky, though. At least you are not having problems with the fog light lenses cracking like the Lightnings have had. Seems that when they are used in the wet the hot lense cracks when hit by the cold water. Ford has replaced a lot of them. They try to claim it is due to rock damage.

I don't know about the fog lamps but the headlamps have a vent built into them.

As CRUZTAKER said, it is under warrenty, so I dont know the real cost for thr replacement. It just doesnt help your ego knowing that one of your fog lights are half filled with water.

well...sometimes you don't have a choice.....when it's a daily driver.
Chicago area got nailed pretty good today and I ended up driving a short distance in some deep water. Both fog lamps are half filled with water. Don't know if the lamps blew out, I shut them off just before going through and won't be turning them on till they are dried out or replaced.
Lets see what the dealer has to say...time for a oil change any way.

Got caught in a bad storm yesterday...I don't drive through water that I see covering the entire road...crossed my mind yesterday as I was trying to get home...oh...and BTW...my car is NOW 1.2" lower in the front with the springs...:help:
Were they both filled with water or just the drivers side where there is no wheel well? *anyone figured out something for that side that won't affect the airflow?

Todd, Your car looks sweet lowered! I actually thought about your ride while I was driving through this...thinking I'm glad this car is not any lower. I had no choice but to go through .....no where else to go and alot of rushhour traffic.
Yes, both lamps are about half full of water!
Russ
Sorry to hear it...hope they come on with no probs when dry. If not, I'm sure you can get them under Warranty...use the lack of wheel well on the driver's side for an excuse:rolleyes:

You should have no problem having them flip the bill for it. Ofcourse they couldnt do mine right then and there so they tried getting me to rent a car from them. But i used my jedi mind tricks to have them give me a loaner instead. BTW mine was on the passenger side.
