View Full Version : Drag Racer Request

I received a e-mail today from Mickey Thompson Tires. I have been corresponding with them on their MT ET Street radials 305 X 45 X 18 for our Marauders as well as the Lightning Pickups.
Today they tell me that they will be available in June/July 07 but only in
305 X 35 X 18....WTF!!!
We need to get them to add our size tires to their production line up.
Please send an e-mail to:
tech@mickeythompsontires.com and make the request to make these tires for our cars.
The tech advised me if they get enough requests for our size they may consider making them. Please tell your Ford Lightning buddies as well. WE really need these sticky tires for drag racing. Let's flood them with requests. Thanks.

Tom, check on 17" X 10" steel wheels for our cars and find out if there is a 28" OD MT for them. We need to keep the same size OD (as well as the offset) that we have without messing up shift points etc. If so, I may order a set of wheels/tires from your guy. MT has a 315 X 45 X 16 which would work if we can get the right 10" wide wheel with the proper offset. See if he can help us.

Interesting. My son-in-law just swapped out his Nitto DR's for MT's. Yesterday at the track he lowered his 60 foot almost a full 2 tenths from a 1.836 to a 1.687. I have two other drag racing friends who swapped them out (a Fireburd & Mustang) and also dropped close to 2 tenths with their 60 foots.

28" diameter and will fit on these wheels in 9".

I already asked them how these will work on our cars with those wheels. They will stick out of the wheel wells, but I will only use them on the road to the local track and transport them to further tracks.

Today MT responded to my e-mail stating that the size we wanted should be out by June. I told them in my e-mail that we were looking for 305/45-18s.

OK--First off- I did not see this^^^^^^^post till I got back from seeing the guys at the tire/wheel store--sorry--Heck , these guys are cool--gives me another change to stop back in --I'll stop in tomorrow and check on your request Tom...
Now the update on what Tom reported that started this thread:
TOM IS CORRECT!!!!! We called MT while at the store and basically he said the same thing--actually , in their brochure, MT is advertising our size but actually NOT planning to produce it--Heard it from the phone of MT guy him self----pretty much what Tom stated--not until there is enough interest---Crap--define that please!! Anyway--the 35's will be ready as you stated --BUT who cares???? SO we need to do as Tom has suggested---write in /e-mail them ...whatever it takes---meanwhile...check on alternatives.......
Like .....maybe......Hoosher(sp)..a ll I know is Nitto is making $$$$ that MT could be taking in---seems MT's do better with what has been reported here lately......
So....look back tomorrow and I hope to have another update regarding MarauderTJA's inquiry........

Myself, John Nero and Glenn in Alt all have these wheels--in 18X10 Bullett Deep Dish Anthrodite style---there may be some pics of ours with them on from MVIV--in any event they work well and clear the stock shocks very good....very good wheel for drags --being they are a full 10" wide--come in a 45 offset---...Tom

Nitto 305x45x18 DRs are not bad if you melt them at the burn box. As Tom said the new Bullitt 18x10 wheels are the ticket for these DRs. I will post my 12.38 run video at SSHS6 on the net probably this weekend and you can see how bad they have got to burn. I have gotten 1.78 60' times and frankly I am a poor driver.

Reply from MT:
Brian,
The closest size we will be making is a 305/35R18 which will be coming
out next summer.

SO, essentially no chance of M/T making a tire for either of my vehicles, huh :depress:
Based on others experiences at the track:
Nittos = Good
M/T = Better

Is the 325 tire going to mount OK on a 9" wide rim? That size tire would usually require a minimum of a 10" rim.

You know--DR usd MT in G'ville......hummm.....think there were 16 or 17's though----and they W O R KE D--prolly have to go smaller in their sizes as did DR.......however--I already have the 10" wide wheels-----more investigation needed to see if the smaller sizes will wear well on them I guess or stay with the Nittos..........hummmmm

DR used slicks and they really didn't hook up well as they should have based on his 60 foot times. I may look at going with 10" wide steel wheels in a 16" or 17" size and mount the available MT's... Just need to find a wheel company that can accommodate our off set.

I stopped by the wheel store again today--I spoke with my man there "DT " and left my business card with sizes of steel 17x10 w/28 OD on a 45 offset to look for that will fit our cars so many here can use MT's---he said he will check and get back with me----stay tuned.....Tom
