I wanted to put on 16" steel wheels with snow tires. Dealer said this will cause problems with ABS system, said 16" wheels and tires will not work on a MM. Can anyone tell me if this is true?

There are many members here that run 16" winter wheels. Search.....

You can run any size rim you like, you just need to make sure you use a tire with a stock DIAMETER.

Who would you listen to? Someone that's done it or someone that hasn't done it?

Isn't the dealer the one who should know what can and can't work on the car? Since this is my daily driver I can't risk creating a potential problem. Just need to know from other members that they had no problems,

Isn't the dealer the one who should know what can and can't work on the car? Not all dealership personel are created with the knowledge you seek...Stay away from the guys in the wash pit whom make minimum wage....They'll steer you wrong everytime...

As long as it clears your brakes.

Ed,
I am on my second winter with 16" steel wheels and pretty darn big snow tires. I have staggerd sizes front & rear that works well with my traction control and ABS.
There are no ill effects to the car. None at all.
I have put over 10,000 miles on my setup, no issues. Heck, even drove from Buffalo to Maryland a couple weeks ago...:D

+1, third winter for me. 215/65/16 front, 225/70/16 rear. No issues what so ever. Contact the tirerack through this site. If you drive in any "real" snow, you won't be going anywhere on the OEM tires.

Most of the time the dealer knows just what is supposed to work from the factory, nothing else. As you can see from the responses from guys here that have the 16" / snow tire setup.... they do work. Just remember to get the right sizes front and rear so the ABS doesn't go wacky....

I have the same size as rayjay, no problem.
I would trust the answers here on this website over the dealer any day.

Blizzak WS-50 Winterbiters (225/60-16 fronts and 235/65-16 backs) have treated me very well over the last two year, and are back on for round three.
16" PI Rims with the Center Caps look really stealth on a Marauder, too:
