View Full Version : December Get Together
Vortex

Per Pats great suggestion, I thought Id duplicate it here. We are looking for a place around the DFW area to meet on a Sunday for lunch and informal car show. A place that had a small private room (like Chucks) would be nice. (I was curious if the Chucks in Frisco has the same settup?) Anyway, make suggestions here or respond to Pats email if youre up for it. Jim

A while back we (the Crown Vic guys) met at the Dickey's BBQ in Irving on MacArthur Boulevard.
It was perfect. Enough room for everyone and our cars, plus good food and reasonable prices.
I'd be up for it if I'm not working that weekend! I'll promise to make the trip from Houston if Wes (from Innovative Interceptors) will commit to it, too. :)

The idea of a Marauder/Crown Vic meeting in Dallas sounds like a good one to me. I have no problem with the Dickeys BBQ either, does anybody have a connection there? It probably is a good idea that whereever we go, somebody touches base with the ownership so we can have a dedicated parking area for our show. Ideally a big parking lot where we could have an informal show for a couple of hours in an empty area would be nice. Comments?
Vortex;
I have received only seven replies to my query. You, me, RVT04, Rumble, Maninblack45 are good for the 17th.
Texas Corvette is non-commital, SID210SA can't make it on that weekend, maybe he can reschedule. I haven't heard from Cruzer but he should be there, we neeed the sign.
Let's explore using Towne East Mall. Big parking lot and resturants are all over the place there, plus lot's of foot traffic to see our cars.
If that's OK, then you are hereby appointed to visit Towne east mall and talk to parking lot security people and select a spot to display our cars.
Also select any resturant on that block, either side of 635 to dine and show the video, all we need is a small room with wall plug. If it cost anything we can take a collection.
We can meet at the selected parking lot area, at Towne East and show the cars from one to four PM, then cruise together to the resturant for dinner (supper), and show the video. Depart from there.
Comments?

Pat, Town East Mall is an absolute nightmare around Christmas time so I would strongly recommend a pass on that one. As an alternative Id be glad to stop by Sammys BBQ in Rowlett (the church lot next door is used every Thursday eve for hotrod parking) and see if we could go there. Its easy to get to I-30, Dalrock Road exit, go north til you get close to Hwy 66 (about 2-3 miles) and its on the left. There isnt any private room though and its a small Mom/Pop place. Comments?
Jim,
Good report, first hand info. I keep forgetting I live in a small city.
Your idea sounds good to me. Let's explore that. Report back.
BTW is there enough traffic to make a show worth while or do we have to rent a crowd?
Pat
Jim;
I'm thinking that since this is a Sunday will there be a conflict in using the Church parking lot?
Maybe we can offer ourselves as "Marauders for the Messiah".
(forgive me Lord I don't mean any disrespect)
Hey, a Harley bike club here uses that PR to assemble without interference.
Would the church be receptive to a "donation" for the use of their parking lot?
As for showing the movie, a plug and extension cord will do, if the BBQ place will allow it. I'll bring a table top 8" TV for viewing the film.
Also, we may have to adjust the date to one of the other weekends depending on participation level as time draws near.

Guy's,
This look interesting? http://www.hotrodsandhoggs.com/ This place caters to cars and bikes, it is a bar and grill so you get some goofies; however being in the motorcycle industry, this is a friendly place for motorcycle and car display's from what I have heard. This place realizes the benefits of car and bike shows for their business. I know several guys that spend their whole weekend there regularly because they like it. Just another option is all. Please note I have never been there, but heard good things over and over.
Edit: this may be a better link. http://www.hotrodsandhoggs.com/index.php?option=com_expose&Itemid=27
Assuming my wife will let me off the leash; I am availabe any Sunday.
Still watching and waiting....keeping my fingers crossed.....
Mike;
I'm acutely aware of how much you want to hook up with us in the nether regions.
At this point it's a toss up between the 10th and the 17th. I'm hoping any other people that wish to participate will pick the 10th. That's why I'm posting this, to get their attention to members needs. I hope no one is left out.
As we firm up the location then we can firm up the date. If the Houston guys can commit, it seems their dates are open, then more people will be available for the 10th than the 17th.

Forgot about church day. Maybe someplace else then. Any other DFW area member suggestions?
Jim,
Look at AstroVics post above. It's got what we want, if you can drive over there or call and see if it will work. Still in the DFW area.
I'm not comfortable with Hotrodders and Hoggs as a location. Different kind of clientel. Besides, when Patricia saw all those "pole dancers" she said, not no but H--l no. She said she'll bring my mother. Ha.
BTW, SID210SA needs the date changed to the 10th. Is that cool with you? OK with me and most of the others. The third is out, too close.
Let me know,
If the Irving location works out, then we'll set this thing in concrete and I'll do another mass mail out with the particulars. OK?

Unfortunately, I cannot make it on the 10th. My department's Christmas party is on the 10th and I'm the one who set it all up so I kinda have to be there!
The Dickey's BBQ location on MacArthur in Irving worked great for us when we met there last year. The restaurant wasn't too busy and when I talked to the manager on the phone he was willing to bend over backwards to accommodate us. The parking lot is plenty big enough for 20+ cars stretched out with breathing room in between. We pretty much had the run of the place.
Plus, the food is really good and very reasonably priced (no tips needed). There are a lot of options for those who have picky appetites and you can get as many refills on the beverage fountain as you'd like. (They even let us go back inside from the parking lot to get refills. It was about 100F that day!)
The only drawback, I guess, was that there really wasn't any pedestrian traffic. So, don't expect anyone to come look at your cars.
Afterward, we took a drive down Highway 121 (I think?) to Texas Motor Speedway. We cruised around the outer parking lot road and took some cool pictures. Just a thought for y'all.
Sorry about the 10th - I simply can't miss my Christmas party. :(
I'm definitely interested in meeting with y'all anytime in the future, so keep me informed if you don't mind. :)
We have had several suggestions none of which seem to fit our need for an informal car display and get together.
I will make another suggestion. How about at a "very" public park. Usually pravillions can be rented, $10.00 per hour and we can recoup that cost from the attendee's. Bring your own lunch, plus extra drinks (2 ltr bottles) and that should cover it. I'll bring the plastic cups, TV, movies, wife and mother.
So far about 9 names are on the list.
So anyone who lives in the DFW area, scour the public parks in your area for one that will support about 10 cars and families, with a pavillion, on Sunday the 10th. Report back. Need to be done quickly so the word can be spread.
We don't need to be there more than 3 hours, 1-4 PM (more or less).
Vortex, mannblack45, RVT04, Rumble, Texas Corvette look in your area,
The rest of the club do the same. Thanks.
Pat
PS; Thanks Astrovic for your input, another time.

Ok found some info...To rent a pavillion at a Brackenridge park here in San Antonio it is $80.00 for the day which is 8am to 11pm. They do have electrical outlets, lots of trees and lots of parking right by the pavillion, and the San Antonio river is just feet away. Just saying for referance is all, Dont know if Dallas area parks cost to rent an area or not but it gives you an Idea of cost if there is any.

One suggestion might be http://www.tworows.com/ . The Allen location
has a large, normally empty lot behind it. It's a open parking area for some
office type buildings. The restaurant has fairly decent food and service and
is a family type atmosphere.
What time of day were you thinking of getting together? Also Saturday or Sunday?
(not when the Cowboys are playing I hope)

I've been preoccupied for the last few weeks and have let things slip--since both groups have planned activities on the same day at the same times, maybe we could combine them. The LSCC Christmas party is just north of Lewisville--since we are going to Lewisville anyhow--what do you think of combining the two events and we all go to the party---that solves parking problems and , since it is a pot-luck meal, all could bring something. Just a thought. Another idea---have the MM get-together-- then drive up to the LSCC party and join them after their meal and just visit and have some fun. Pat, think about it and let LilWrink know what you decide--either way, it would be fun for all concerned. Sorry i have been out of the loop, but my world is moving very fast right now and I don't know one hour to the next where I'll be, but, I will be available on Sunday. See you soon, Maury
We have 9 more days till the 10th to decide what to do about this new development.
For those NTM members who are coming to one or the other social would you please post on this board your preference.
Option 1 - Meet at Two Rows and cruise to LSSC party.
Option 2 - Go directly to the LSSC Party.
Option 3 - Meet at Two Rows and break up from there.
I have a unique problelm, I was planning on just the Two Rows event and therefore have made plans to bring my wife AND my 97 year old mother for shopping. So Option 3 is the one I have to choose since my sainted Mother cannot be "up" for that many hours.
Regardless, I will be at Two Rows at 12 noon, Sunday the 10th.

As one with an overabundance of follicle development, I don't think of anyone not having top cover. All I know is, My head is always warm in the winter, Maury;)

That's the way the invite is listed--I'll be in touch with Shane by cell phone and we can play it by ear--it's about 30 minutes further North---should work out OK--See you Sunday, Maury

I was actually suprised how many folks showed up, 11 cars I think, including ones from San Antonio, Shreveport and Oklahoma. The lunch was good (wish I would've had the buffet!) and then the weather changed and my car got rained on for the second time ever. After lunch, some of us drove up to Van Alstyne for the Cougar Club party. Didnt realize until after I got back into my car how muddy my shoes were dammit! Anyway, I had a good time. Hope you all have a nice holiday and maybe we can hook up next month.

The early arrivals got their pics taken--then the rain came and then 5 of the 7 Marauders that went to the LSCC Party---another post with pics follows. Thanks to all 20 folks that braved the elements and brought 11 beautiful Marauders out in this weather. Everyone have a Merry Christmas, Maury

:burnout: Chris drove down from Oklahoma for todays events. As he left the LSCC Party, he left his mark for all Texans to see ( and smell:D ). Thanks a lot for the great effort to join us today--see you again soon--have a Merry Christmas and a safe trip home, Maury

What Maury said.
Whata :burnout: Burn! :2thumbs:
Thanks to all who participated in our December Luncheon and LSCC shindig.
At my count we had twelve Marauders, Redster came in a little later.
Thanks to Two Hawks for getting those hats made.
We got some club business accomplished and had a great time. Even though the weather didn't cooperate it was the best showing this year, I believe.
My 97 year old sainted mother said he had a nice time and said my car was the best. So there.
The club will be planning more activities this coming warm season.
Suggestions are welcomed.

Lisa and I also had a great time....We got to see Maury's 'Cuda, and meet a lot of folks I have not met before....the food was great at Two Rows and we probably could have had 2 rows of Marauders. We had a nice little drive out to the LSCC Christmas party and I got to see a nice old Marauder sitting in the garage, I had never seen one in person....I wish we could have stayed longer but we had to get back to San Antonio at a decent hour we made it back in good time, about 4 hours and it was wet the whole way home so needless to say I have lots of cleaning to do....here are some of the pics that Lisa took, but dont pay attention to the date, I assure you these pictures were taken yesterday.

A real good part of the trip was when we caravaned to the LSCC party, lots of the people that either we passed or they passed us on 75 must have gotten a crick in their necks....I saw at least a dozen that had their heads turned in our direction and when we left the store with Ice Cream in hand....the one house that had a bunch of people on the porch seemed amazed that our little parade was passing by their house...It was great.

Great get together, Thanks to Pat & Pat & Maury for putting it all together and
thanks for the long distance drivers for coming so far.
Redster, Damn! In the rain I forgot the CD. Next time?
The only thing nicer than our cars are the owners.
And former owners.

oh come on you all just kicked the lowly Crown to the back..:)...plus it was to dirty to park next to all those nice clean Marauder...but mine looked a lot better when I came out. Sure am glad I didn't wash it. :)
Didn't even know it was going to rain, we need the rain..but it was a shame getting all those perty Marauder's dirty.
You know the difference of going to a Marauder meet vs a F150 meet...Marauder meet..let's pickup desert and go to a party...F150 let's get some beer and go to a party......you know when you are getting old when.....pie sounds better than beer. :)

It was good....but we didn't stay long there, maybe 20 minutes before we were back on the road to SA. And I missed the burn out.....damn...I want do do one when I left but didnt think I should have marked up the street in front of our gracious hosts house....but we will meet up again some time, I wish it was longer too....some how I get the feeling MV4 would not have been long enough...

Had a great time at both events. Somehow I got a free meal at Two Rows. The waitress told me about 4 times don't worry about it?? Whatever, I enjoyed the grub, especially the blue-berry pancakes. Wish they had a Two Rows over here.
Shane is a great host and has a super setup there. Guess I found the short-cut as I beat you guys by 20 minutes even though I left after youse.
Gary - I have the CD in the car, so whenever, wherever, I've got it.
Stopped by Clarks in Tioga on the way home to pickup some BBQ for dinner. Some interesting roads in between. Maybe next spring we can set up a cruise to Clarks and Lake Ray Roberts.
Cheers
