Ohhhhh Wise and Wonderful MM Gurussssssss.

Driving today, check engine light came on. I have a friend that has a scanner. No Marauder listed but same year Grand Marquis w/4.6 so we scanned.

P0316 and P0308 came up. He says the 308 is a misfire, probably a bad coil connector/boot. Which Cylinder is 8? Any ideas on the the 316?

Jeez, 1st the damn window and now this. Please advise.

Thanks in advance!

Perhaps some of our other members will chime in but for now the documentation on the net seems to skip over the P0316.

But the P0308 is definitely Cylinder 8 Misfire Detected.

Here is the source for future codes:

Okay my friend, here goes, now remember I'm no techy, but I know how to read:

P0316 - Misfire Occurred in the First 1,000 Engine Revolutions
Possible Causes:
a) Damaged CKP sensor
b) Ignition system
c) Fuel Injectors
d) Running out of fuel
e) Fuel Quality
f) Base Engine
g) Damaged PCM

Diagnostic aides -> Freeze Frame data and the P03xx DTC will aslo be stored, indicating in which cylinder the misfire occurred.
Well we know in your case it is the eighth cyclinder.

Good luck.

The #8 cylinder is the one closest to the driver.

The numbering goes like this:

Firewall
4 8
3 7
2 6
1 5

Ok, swapped 8 an 6 to test, running smooth now, just need to clear the codes and make the light go OFF. I hate that damn light!

How do I clear the code?

You need a scantool to clear out the code.

I got so tired of codes coming on in my 2000 CVPI, I finally bought a scantool on Ebay about a year ago. I paid about $85 for it and it's been worth its weight in gold! It also says what the codes are in plain language so you don't have to go hunt for the meaning of that particular code.

I've probably cleared 50 codes from my coworkers' cars - for free, of course.

AutoZone will clear them for you, too. (I hate AutoZone, but at least they offer this service free of charge. I gotta give them that.)

Mac I thought this explained it pretty well.Oh, it did, my friend. Worked very well too. But, there's still that 20 percent of us who can't tell their left from their right, from behind the wheel, or, standing in front of an engine bay they have never seen before, 'cause they have never looked under any hood of any car until they bought a Marauder.

They are here, just wait...

Most FLAPS will read and/or clear codes.

I had this problem a month or so ago. I swapped the coils and it runs/ran fine.

Last night, leaving my daily AA meeting, the check engine light went off and hasnt gone on again so far. I wonder if those factory coil connectors are the cause of this. I want to get some of those Granatelli braided units. Anyone have experience with these?
Also Im wondering if changing plugs isnt a bad idea as well when I get the green light from you guys to try the grantelli's

disconnecting the battery will clear the code. just disconnect it and turn the high beam on....this also clears the keep alive memory.

id also pull the # 8 plug and check it. the miss is probably either the plug or coil....

If you get the SCT tune from Lidio the scanner device supplied will erase codes. I was getting insignificant codes of and on and Lidio reprogramed the device and my tune so non-consequential alarms/codes are not shown.
