the cowl panel grille would be that thing highlighted. long story short...got a rattle there, pouring stuff in there changes the rattle but doesn't help any and ends up in my a/c ducts and I don't own a shop vac sooooo....

Ozz suggested removing the thing and cleaning it out, but I hit a snag trying to do that. I can't figure out how to get the wiper arms off. I pulled that latch at the base of the wiper arm as far as it will go and I pulled the wiper arm as far away from the glass as far as it will go, but after that wiper arm wont come off regardless of how I pull it. what is the proper procedure for removing the wiper arm?

and Im sure the cowl's going to incur problems too.

Sounds like they are frozen. They do make a tool that applies upward pressure on the arms. Fits between the arm and the cowl.

The wipers have to be up. When the wipers come up, just before they go down, turn off the ignition. Then you should be able to flip the lil lever at the base of the wiper arm that holds the wiper off the windshield. Giggle the arm and it should pop off.

The cowl is held on by about 4 clips and 8 screws. Dont forget the washer line.

The wipers have to be up. When the wipers come up, just before they go down, turn off the ignition.I did that, I guess the wipers are frozen.

EDIT: 2oz of WD40 later...one of the wiper arms came off, so it turns I was pulling the arm right...its just all siezed up.

It couldn't hurt to lube with anti-seize compound before reinstalling them.

ok, the cowl came off without a hitch and now that its cleaned out, the rattles gone :D

now I cant figure out how to put the wiper arms back on...every time I put the arms onto those cylinders and crank the car...the wipers suddenly move down until they get caught on something...anyone know how to fix this?

Take the wiper arms off

Start the car

Turn on the wipers

Turn off the wipers, so that they are "parked"

Reinstall wipers arms

There are a "locator" keys on the wiper shafts and they fell off both of mine....luckily I found them and epoxied them to the shaft!!:o Otherwise locating the wiper arms would be purely be hit and miss!!

Good luck!!
