I had a problem with my suspention a week ago, the "air suspention light" flickered on and off and marauder drove like a tank.
I took it to my FoMoCo dealer so they can fix it and they told me that there was an air compressor problem si ot was replaced, upon fixing that yet another problem happened....A power steering leak they had to replace the power steering rack and the tie rod was replaces.
My dealer told me if I wouldn't had got extended warranty parts would of costed $1000!!!:argue:

I highly advise you to get the warranty if you don't plan on getting a S/C:cool:

I bag to differ. I had it and it didn't help me one bit. Especially when I had to get a new engine and when someone took the time to actually find the problem it wasn't related to my Kerosene at all. I would have to pay for the first 100 dollars of everyone. A lot of little things went wrong and the bill would always come out to be 104 or 108. Total waste of money if you ask me, but I'm sure some will benefit.

.....just ask "fastblackmerc" about it.............two holes thru the block---cough..cough....Ford says--yep---lets get this guy a new engine alright......yeah/ask fastblackmerc if it was worth it....so see.....like lotto--and dice-----being a new set up from Ford--He said --better do it-----he is a happy man now----in my case, I didn't get to own it longe nough to decide on a longer warranty----your right --its a gamble--like all things in life--some pay --some don't----I got a hunch of what might be his next mod---

It 'saved' me about $480 for the HVAC control that is in the dash. I could not get AC from the dash vents. The dealer tried to tell me the audio installer pinched a hose. Like I have been driving 92000 miles and 4 years with broken AC. :)

Did not cover a broken tab holding the button panel down on the driver door armrest or a broken bucket under the center console armrest.

But then again, these are the only 3 problems I have had.

Is it true that extended warranties vary in price between Ford dealers?

My experiences with extended warranties.....

'97 T-Bird - total trans rebuild, only cost me $150.00, they even had to replace the case!

'93 T-Bird - same thing, only had to do it two times, cost me $300.00

'87 Aerostar van - rebuild the entire AC system, front and rear, cost me $100.00

I have an extended (Ford) warranty on my MM until 78,000 miles or 6 years.

I'd get one, it will save you lots down the road......

its worth it for all the little things. The 100$ deductible is a small price to pay for peace of mind that the PS, Brakes, suspension, most the electronics, the little creature comforts are all covered. I do however hate how service departments are stingy about replacing parts, like my queaky belt or the squeak that comes from whenever I ue my AC system that they "cant replicate"

Yes and you can haggle with the dealer.
I bought my 7year/70k mile extended for $650

Having had similar problems with two different Windstars, I decided on a quite different approach. If a new
car _needs_ an extended warranty, why should I want to buy the car? There are cars on the market that
have earned a bad rep, and there are cars on the market that have earned a good rep. Why would I want
to reward the company that builds the former? To me, it's just silly to pay extra for an extended warranty
on a new car. Why take the depreciation hit, if you can't even have the peace of mind that the car's gonna
be reliable?

An extended warranty is little more than an insurance policy, that's paid up front. If you know Ford builds
fragile transmissions, so does the company that's selling the policy, and the policy is priced accordingly.
I'd say you'd be better off investing the money where you could get to it if you need it. Otherwise, it's
a gamble. You may come out ahead, but in actuarial terms, the odds are stacked against you. Like Vegas.

As much as I love my MM, (which I bought used) I won't be buying any new Ford products until they get
their quality back up to where it needs to be. If Ford wants any more of my money, they need to prove
to me that they can build a car that will outlast the payment book, _and_ back it up with an all-inclusive
10 year/100K mile factory warranty. When you've violated peoples' trust, it's a long road back...

Some Mercury used cars come as a Mercury Certified Used car. How does that coverage compare with an extended warranty?

I Have A 6 Yr 100,000 Mile No Deductable After Market Waaranty. Haven't Had To Use It Yet. The Extended Warranty On My Wife's Sabl Has Saved Me Over $2000.00. When I Had My Mark Viii, It Saved Me Over $8,000 ( What A Lemon!)

I shudder to think about where I'd have been without warranty/ESP;
Axles replaced;
Pinion seal failed
Tranny failed THREE times - over $1000 each time - covered by ESP
Replaced front links (whatever those were)
Random stalling
Failed hood latch... and I can't remember what else. All I knew, is that my MM had a stack of repair receipts nearing an inch thick by the time ESP was running out, and since I wasn't willing to risk driving it anymore without extended warranty, I traded it in.

The MM doesn't exactly sound like the most reliable car. My OASIS report confirms that at only 23k miles it has been in for lots and lots of warranty problems on engine, driveline, interior, chassis, etc. I'm going to have to get an extended warranty before mine runs out in a month or two because I don't think I could afford to keep up the repairs it's going to take to get this car to 100k miles!

The bucket under my armrest broke also, (they are incredibly cheap IMO compared to almost every other newer car I've sat in), but the dealer replaced it no problem at 24K miles. Said it would have cost me about $150. The new one was a bit better fit than the one that came with my '03. Still have to baby it though.

Coming up on 35,000 right now and need to decide quick if I should go for the extended or not. About $1500 I think...

I'm at 106,000 miles and nothing has really ever gone wrong. What my problem is right now is my heat doesn't work and my seat pad is worn out. Other than that it just needs normal stuff like brakes, tranny flush... exc. It's been the bext car my family has had in quite a while. ;)

I have a long history of crappy luck with cars, no matter what make or model. So I buy Ford ESP whenever possible. On the wife's stang, we have Easy Care drivetrain warranty sold by the dealer we use for service. I was particularly carefull to buy an EXP plan for the Marauder, since I knew it was a new combination of Ford parts, not something that had been produced for long enough for all the flaws to be worked out.
