For the past week I have noticed a knocking noise coming from my rear end almost everytime i put my car in to gear from park. Its a single knock, and as of now I havnt noticed anything different about the rear end.
I have had my rear end repaired several times ( 6 months ago being the last time ) and dont know if its associated with it.
Has anyone ever experienced this type of noise or know what it is. I would really like to get this resolved before it drives me insane :mad2:
Any and all info is greatly appreciated in advance.
If it's a single loud, hollow sounding, "TONK", it might be a u-joint or wear in the output housing bushing. You never drive over, say, 110 do you? Somebody should be able to find it easily on a lift if it is consistent.

May be obvious, but check for loose objects in the trunk. :D

Engage the emergency brake and have a friend with a flashlight look under the car paying attention to the driveshaft.
With your foot firmly on the brake, start the engine and shift the car from park into drive, having your friend paying close attention if the driveshaft is excessively rotating while you shift.
Repeat this process from drive to reverse and visa/versa. It may also be a good idea to check the flange bolts for proper torque.
If nothing appears out of the ordinary, it may be a good idea to jack the car up and get underneath for a visual inspection of the U-joints/snap rings before moving to the rear-end as possible cause.

Driveshaft bolts...
If they wern't lock-tite'd and torqued to around 90ftlbs they'll start to back out. The play will clunk. I've had this happen twice on my stang and once on my exploder.
Jack up the rear of the car with the trans in neutral and rear wheels off the ground. Move the driveshaft around and see where you have the extra play causing the clunk. Please don't do this with the engine running. Don't EVER get under a car with the engine running...
