I find it kind of odd how that Vette can beat the GT at stock mode, when he only has an intake and a tune. But yet, I was watching the Travel Channel, and an older gentleman, I believe he owned 3 Ford Dealers raced a Viper GTS with a tune and DR's, and he was stock and beat him? I don't thing the GT driver was pushing it.

well for one he out powered him. He had like 488whp... the GT is arounf 460some stock. 2 in that first little part you can see how sloppy the gt driver shifts. So a combination of things makes that quite realistic

And if a Marauder can beat a Ford GT then why couldnt a vette?

Well from the sites I've viewed, it appears that the GT is only slightly faster than a 06 Z06 corvette. But still faster.

Suki you're wrong about the GT being around 460 rwhp. Motor Trend dyno'd their stock GT, and it made between 500-550 rwhp. http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2005/ford/gt/specifications/index.html

Ummm I see 550hp SAE... that isn't wheel HP

I'm confused, I thought maybe it was Car and Driver, but they said 500 SAE. I could have SWORN one tested and it made way more than 500hp.

In stock form I can't think of any ford that is under rated ford says 550hp it's usually right on, or damn close. I dunno if I see a fluke GT making 500whp

The driver of the GT clearly didn't know how to drive that car very well. I could swear he missed a shift in that first part, like RR Suki already pointed out.

When two cars are fairly even in performance, the better driver will always win. And, oftentimes, the better driver can make up for a lower-performing vehicle, too.

I know that this is still not a perfect example to what I was trying to tell you in this thread http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=31380 but at least now you might at least even be open minded to what I was trying to get across to you.

By the way, nice vid andthanks for shaing.:)

The value of the GT is in it's overall presentation, ZO6s are cool, but they won't really stand out like a GT... sometimes the 1/4 mile isn't every thing.

I know, that is why "some people" are paying these stupid prices for them. As a matter of fact, "some people" are also paying said stupid prices for the GT500.

The Fords mentioned above would be a good value if you can find them at MSRP but not at the prices people are actually paying for them.

You and I both know that "we" would NOT throw away money when we could buy a car with very similar performance for one-half or even one-third the price of one that "stands out more".

The new Z06's are pretty much king of the road right now. They' murder a GT500.

I believe there are people running high 10's low 11's in them with just drag radials. I never thought I'd say this but if I run into one on the street i'm going to be worried about racing it in my stang.

The Ford GT was not built to a straight line racer.

Now put the Z06 on a road course with the GT and see who get the fastest lap time.

I know I am off topic. Still apples to apples, right?

And neither was the Z06. The C6 Z06 is a monster on a road course.

Both C6 Z06 and GT are closely matched in nearly every category. Any battle between both in stock form, likely comes down to the driver.

Now that is well said!!!

Exactly what I was hoping to get across to those who talk down about the greatness that is the Z06 just because it isn't "show off enough."

IMO, it is one of the best cars to come from the USA and it's overall value is unmatched by anything.

A Z06 does 1.04g g skidpad I think.

Motor Trend did a dyno comparison with a GT, Z06, and Viper.

Off the top of my head the Viper got 460rwhp, the vet got 495rwhp and the GT got 510rwhp. All cars were factory stock. Now I don't know if that was SAE or whatever the other dyno read out is, but that's (ballpark) of what they put out.

I do remember that whatever the number the GT was putting out resulted in it having at least 550hp at the crank. :) I'll see if I can find it now...

Yes! That is the article I saw, and I couldn't find it. And yes, the GT beat them all if I remember correctly.

I have a customer/friend who has both. Stock for stock (neither is stock any longer), he said they are equal in pretty much every aspect of performance. He said the only difference between the two, is the "feel" of each car, with the Vette being front engine and the GT being mid engine.
