View Full Version : Supercharger upgrades?

Now I just want to say this is only about what can be upgraded and isn't a battle of the companies.
I want to know if you can port and polish all the blowers out for our car. I know you could port and polish a Trilogy one, (or at least I think so) but the others that look like blow dryers I don't know about. Are their upgrades for these too or is all you can do is get a smaller pully? This is just for the supercharger alone... not about piping or anything else... just the blower.

I thought it would be better asking people who have the products. Not the people trying to sell them to me.

Are you looking to upgrade your supercharger or something?
Or are you just asking in the even that you someday buy a supercharger?

porting a centri blower isn't something people do I don't think, there are centi blowers that will blow beyond what you could ever need cfm wise, So I think you just change the impelar fin deals. beats me... oh and changing a pulley gives you more boost not more CFM

It's just a matter of when. I just want to know all of the facts before I spend a good chunk of change. Thanks for the correction RR Suki.

You do realize that if you install a Supercharger on your Marauder you will have to run it on gasoline....:D

It's cool Astro. I will find a way to make my alternative fuel Kerosene! It already worked, but not too well. I think we need to adjust the retard for a different octane. Alright back on track here. :D

...adjust the retard...
Couldn't have said it better myself.

The Eaton/Trilogy can be ported. The centrifugals can not. All of them can be upgraded by installing a smaller pulley on the blower. The centrifugals can also be upgraded by installing a larger crank pulley. The Trilogy could probably be upgraded with a bigger crank pulley but it is bolted to the OEM pulley so I can't say for sure since I don't know if it is a standard part from a Cobra or a custom part from Trilogy. All of them have limits on how fast the internals can be spun by changing pulleys, at which time you can go to a bigger blower on the centrifugals. All of them can be polished on the outside, I haven't heard of anybody polishing a blower on the inside. All of them can be setup to make enough boost to destroy a stock engine.

If you do a search... you'll see.
If you got to the Manufacturer's sites... you'll see.
Where else you gonna get what what's available?
Unless, of course, you're just posting for the sake of posting.
BTW have you decide which S/C your gonna get yet?

I shocked you would suggest anyone would do that. :banned:
That could get you a vacation ya'know.

No one that I know of has ported / polished (the inside, that is) their supercharger on a Marauder.
Why don't you become the experimental test bed? BUY a blower, and go at it with a die grinder ;)

I believe there is atleast one CAM'er with a ported eaton. Could be wrong. You can port the eaton's but you don't port centrifugals. They work on a different principle design.
As mentioned with centrifugals and roots, a smaller pulley on the blower will spin them faster giving more boost.
To go more agressive a larger compressor is the ticket, hence the upgrades available for many centrifugal blowers. Also with positive displacement blowers there are different blower sizes, ie. Eaton M90 vs M112 (M112 on Trilogy), Kenne Bell 1.7 vs 2.6, etc.
Unless you are doing something radical the standard sizes avaiable should provide plenty of boost. I don't see needing anything beyond the standard blower size in any setup with a stock motor. If you're motor is stock you'll run out of motor strength before you run out of boost pressure with small pulleys on the blowers standard in the kits.

I think Lidio's old car had a ported Trilogy.
. All of them can be setup to make enough boost to destroy a stock engine.
That is a very true statement. The engine is the limitation, not the blower, or in your case the funds to purchase boost. Education is not needed on this subject because all the vendors have tons of technical data to support your purchase based on a stock configuration. If you are building a Super Marauder I might suggest having a conversation with an engine builder. What you are asking is like installing Anderson Windows on a barn and wondering where the air is leaking from. :dunno:
Cool! I can't wait to legally drive again and win some more races myself. :D

Alright thanks for the info especially what Brain said. I don't plan on changing anything internally, but I have friends who plan on getting their blowers polished so I wanted to know if it was a common thing to do to our cars. So I guess it's an impractial mod unless I plan on using the car just for race use. I think I have decided on which blower to buy for a few reasons. I won't mention what company or why unless any of you would like to private message me and I'll tell you everything.
Again this was very helpful to me, thank you. Oh and Merc I can legally drive again. There was a computer error in the system and wasn't because of my heavy foot... well not completely. :)

You are right Rich, Lidio sent his eaton out to magnisun and they ported and polished the blower for him. It did not net him much of an increase in performance. I actually think he ended up regretting it. He thinks they damaged the blower when they did it as well. He ended up replacing the blower with a new unported one. He Highly reccomended that you not port it.
On the Eaton, the single best upgrade is a smaller pulley. Stock is 3.4, but are available as 3.2, 3.0, 2.8, and my 2.X custom pulley. Smaller pulleys will give you more boost, and must be custom dynotuned to make the best of the new pulley.
