If you go with long tube / mid lenght headers, do yourself a favor and get decent collector gaskets. Last week I took The Defyant Marauder to the track Thread here (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=32125). While making a run, I blew out a collector gasket.

The pic below shows whats left of the cheepo gaskets comparable to the standard ones that come from Kooks. When I unbolted the x-pipe, this is what fell out! Kinda crappy considering I spent over a grand for these headers and other componants...

It still surprises me that Kooks still uses the standard 3 bolt flat flange collector, considering there ate much better sealing methods. But if you have to use it, get a set of either copper or aluminum gaskets.

I forgot to mention that! I put a set of Mr. Gasket copper gaskets in. I knew these were crap when I replaced the crappy kooks gaskets when they blew last year. I've had these copper ones in the glove box - waiting!

BTW Surge, PM or email next time your down this way at Cecil Dragway.

I have been using Mr Gasket Ultra-Seal collector gaskets and have never had one blow out (if the bolts are tight). However, unlike the copper and aluminum ones, they are NOT reuseable.

Nick has always suggested using copper gaskets.

Summit Racing $1.98 each.

I blew mine out on CJ's dyno in the fall of '04.

DON'T QUOTE ME ON THE PRICE...A DOLLAR NINETY EIGHTY SOUNDED GOOD.:P

I just took BillyG's car apart and found the gaskets supplied with the Kooks kit still holding their own, 50,000 miles later.
