View Full Version : Trilogy : The Zack Discount

I want to be fair to MM.Net, so here is what I posted on the Motor City site:

Wow, this is a soap opera! And I am about to have some fun! Hold on to your seats folks, here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!

First, we do not have a return policy, but for anyone that knows me and has been a good customer, I will take something back without ANY questions and return all of their money. Period!

Second, Chuck brings up a VERY interesting point. If a person is devious enough to buy a product and then cast a VERY negative light on the product, the company and its owner. Do you think this person would damage some critical parts and pass them along to another unsuspecting customer, only to have the product fail and the customer gets a very costly repair bill? Who would do such a thing? Would you be incline to help this person? Sure! So, for the first in our history, I will allow Zack to return his supercharger kit for a 25% restocking, inspection and repackaging fee. And this is the first time a customer has EVER asked to return one of our kits!

Third, if Zack does not want to suffer the restocking fee suggested by my friends and customers, then he will need help moving his Kit #147 on his own. Zack baught the kit without a handheld tuner, injectors, heat exchanger and a few other items for $5,000. So you could negotiate with Zack for a 20%, 15%, etc. discount. A man with his DONATED funds should be able to take the hit without a problem. Look for a Zack Fund Raising Event to start soon!

Fourth, I REALLY want to help Zack sell his kit #147. He stretched himself a little thin on all of his world wide purchasing activities lately. SO HERE WE GO!!! Trilogy Motorsports will have a one and only time sale of Supercharger kits with a $400 discount!!!! THAT'S RIGHT, $400, WHICH MEANS OUR KIT WILL BE $5,595 UNTIL JANUARY 31, 2007. This means you can buy a complete, untampered with, kit for almost the same price as a used POS, incomplete kit sold by someone with questionable motives. All you have to do is call and say "I want the Zack discount" and poof, you got it!!!

Fifth, And it just keeps getting better. If you order a Trilogy Supercharger kit from this moment on, we will have the NEW IAT SENSOR upgrade included on your new kit!!!! Yes, you heard it first on the MCM site. We will offer the IAT SENSOR upgrade option at no additional cost!!! FREE!!!!

Has everyone got a woody yet?

Seriously, I want our customers to feel that they spent their money wisely and with a reputable firm, so we will have an upgrade coming for our existing customers to give them peace of mind. I DO NOT THINK IT IS NECESSARY, BUT IF YOU WANT THAT SECURITY, WE WANT YOU TO HAVE IT. We are currently working on the response to a valid question, which is coming. And we are also working on some simple and more complex upgrades to keep our customer satisfied with our product. Details will be available soon. Once again, please be patient.

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY

I AM CERTAIN THAT OUR PRODUCT IS RELIABLE AND HIGH QUALITY. WE WILL STAND BEHIND EVERYTHING WE SELL. PERIOD!!!! THE POINTS RAISE IN THE RECENT DISCUSSION ARE VALID POINTS THAT I WILL SOON ADDRESS, BUT ONCE AGAIN, I WILL NOT GO OFF HALF COCKED OR BE PRESSURED INTO JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS WITHOUT INTELLIGENT RESEARCH. WE WILL HAVE SEVERAL OPTIONS AVAILABLE FOR OUR CUSTOMERS.

Zack, good luck selling your kit!

Thank You!

Per our conversation earlier, I will be the first to jump on the "Zack Discount." I am proud to say that I will be purchasing Trilogy #150 from you. I look forward to joining the Trilogy family.

Thanks again, Jerry. You're a real gentleman.

First I would like to say that this is a great deal. I have never known Jerry to run a special like this for the membership. People, if you were thinking about it, DO IT!!! You can see AstroVic is doing it. The time is right.

Second, it is nice that Jerry will offer us a retro fit on the IAT. I myself will be keeping my car as is. I see nothing wrong in my setup or tune. As a matter of fact my car will be headed to Lidio's for a smaller pulley (3.0) and a new tune this early spring. I have the utmost confidence in this kit and Jerry. That is the main reason I bought it. Thank you again Jerry for being a "Honorable Man".

Stand in line.

I've already voiced my interest in charitable donations on MCM for one of his kits ... shortly after his very generous offer.

I even offered to "give back" to the community for their generosity ... by making a sincere offer to provide a comedic performance for everyone that donates, as well as personally autographed photos & vids of such. I even offered to donate the props I would be using in said performance ... in a fund raiser raffle for the MCM as well.

People must have been tired tonight ... I didn't get so much as one laugh yet.

"Hello is this thing on ?".

Oh well ...

It never hurts to try eh ?.

:P < --- been sitting here calculating how much credit I will have access to between now thru Jan 31st & foaming at the mouth.

I've thought long and hard about what FI kit I want and the Trilogy kit is what I must get because of the power it offers, the quaility of the products and type of people who I would be dealing with to get it. Not knocking any of the other vendors kits, their all great in their own ways. ;)

I did not know things had escalated to this level, I guess because I'm N/A at the moment (wish I could participate in the "special sale")....

But I would expect nothing less from a guy who values his reputation and care about his company as much as Jerry Barnes does.

Lesson to be learned? Don't paint a bullseye on yourself by challenging upstanding, people of principle who are experts in their field.

I would need at least a streetable low 9 second Marauder(today) before I would even come close to questioning a product coming from Trilogy or Jerry B. regarding supercharging period. By the time I ever get a 9 sec. car, Jerry will have a 5 sec. so I guess the point is moot, but you get the idea.

Best regards,

Very good Chuck! I must confess, once and a while I like to let my hair down, I just did not realize that photos were being taken. This is another occasion where I was in Chicago, Zack did not show up for this one either, and I was hanging out at my good friend's place, Big Joe P, called THE EXIT. Joe and his wife are very good people and his place is always on my agenda when I visit Chicago. It's a little different in there, but terrific people and lots of unusual fun. I was hanging out with Mike Wesly, Chris Tumpkin, John, Chris's wife and Don Walsh Jr. the day before the Jolliet Races. They started having a dance contest on top of the bar and, well, I'm only 55 and felt I could keep up with the younger guys. Man I'm getting old. That's a lot of work throwing your body around like that. It got so hot. I took my shirt off. Joe said he would never show the pictures, you owe me Big Joe!

Oh, by the way, Joe does not have a Trilogy Supercharger, I think he has a Vortech? But, he is still a very good friend. Just like Marty, Todd and several other Marauder friends. It's not what you have under your hood, it's what you have in your heart. And these are all excellent people and I am proud to call them my friends!

Come and get our RED HOT "Zack Discounts!!!!!".

Hey, wait a second! I'm no detective, but I'm guessing that picture Zack posted is a likeness of Jerry Barnes. Right? And he's with his friends? And he's having fun? With his friends? Wow....

Since we're sharing pictures, here's one of me with my one of my friends. See if you can figure out who is who. (Note: Photo taken just milliseconds before Secret Service agents tackled me. I was just about to wrap my arm around around W's head and give him a big ol' noogie.)

Where's one of Zack and his friends?

That's a great picture. How come George is not dancing?

I am convinced that all of our wonderfull s/c vendors are inherently EVIL because they are offering discounts on their kits at the time of year when I have to spend money on people other than myself. They are doing this only to deepen the wretched torment of my immortal soul.:help:

Who made up THAT rule? Seems to me it's your money until you spend it....

Folks,

I just posted a response to a comment that Zack made on the MCM site. I want to be very open and honest with everyone on both sites about how I feel. I don't bull**** people or beat around the bush. People make mistakes in life and I make them on a regular basis myself. But, my mother always told me "Treat people the way you want to be treated". I have tried hard to follow that philosophy in life. Sometimes I don't succeed, but I don't usually make the same mistake twice, especially with people I call Friends.

So this was what I posted and some may find it harsh, but it is where I stand at this point.

Zack,

Let's be REAL honest with one another. I have turn the cheek once to often with you. And I thought when I helped you, when you purchase our product that we could be friends, that time has come and gone.

Do you remember when you drove all the way from Chicago for our first Trilogy Open House. Do you remember the hospitality we extended to you and Sarg and the others? Do you remember the posts that were made after you got home? It was like we met different people. You will never change and I will not turn the cheek any longer.

We are not friends, and I usually don't say that about many people. But, you will never change. You are who you are. I just don't have to put up with it or accept it. You take great joy in bringing others trouble. The less we have to listen to you, the better off these web sites will be.

And that is fine Jerry, I respect that. When I ordered your kit, (before I learned BG's car was for sale) I was genuinely excited about it. Ive told other people this before and Ill say it here: Had you offered Boxed and ready kits the day of the open house, I would have been first in line.
Yes, I ordered a Vortech cause it was available right then and there. That was a time when I had lost my job of which i was going to have forever. I was depressed and I needed a summer project to keep my mind off it. I was dipping into my savings for blower, imagine that.
And another thing you thought you'd never hear, the Vortech kit was a pain in the dickk to install. I refined it in my own way til the day I got rid of it.
Now it is a fool proof kit that is easy to install. Evolution I guess.

Back to the point: I had no clue the TKit was lacking the IAT placement I prefer. Think about it, how many trilogy's do I have to study here in Chicago?
Had i known, I still would have bought it, and changed it. In reality, I was a little shell-shocked I had just shelled out 5 large for a kit that I felt lacked the necessary safety and customary features found in any other blower kit. Im not comparing this to Reinharts kit, Im comparing this to EVERYONE.

So I asked you publicly why it is this way, assuming you would be able to answer me. Afterall, you are the president and CEO of an international company, why wouldn't you have the answers? And I dont care how many of your minions have come to your defense over this because under it all, they are all gearheads that probably do want to know the answer.

Zack, Zack Zack.
I truly believe you have been reading all the response put forth on the IAT subject, yet have only chosen to acknowledge those that fit your side of the story.
You expect Trilogy Motorsports to take a proven product and change it based on your information. But you miss the point that it performs as advertised. It has always been tauted as a safe performance upgrade that will function as promised, as delivered.
The opportunity that you have, still, is to perform the upgrade on your car and show the whole world that you are correct. Why not just do that and show the results?
Anything less, and that's what you've given us all, comes accross as petty and questionable.
Humility is one of the hardest things for people to express and show. It ain't a matter of eating crow, it's how you make friends, you know?

Zack,

We could have accomplished the same result without the bashing, hype, hysteria, etc. Our product is safe and reliable. The idea is a valid idea, but what about a simple phone call. How about driving to Dearborn, like you have done in the past, to review your idea in a calm and constructive manner. Your idea has merit, but shoving it up someone's ass for the purpose of grandstanding is utter bull****. And I have spoken to many people over the years that you and a few of your select friends have done the same thing to, so don't try to come across like someone who is looking out for the good of the rest. You are not!

You take great pleasure in sitting behind a keyboard and trashing people. I am done with your crap and I hope the others on these sites feel the same way. Your are disrespectful, dishonest and enjoy embarrassing others in public. You are one sick puppy!!!

As others have commented, take your keyboard away and you are a Nobody. The only thing that will change my opinion of your bull**** antics is to see a genuine change in your behavior, but I sincerely doubt that will ever happen. And if you treat the people you work with, the same way you treat people on these websites, I suspect you will be unemployed again real soon!

So pull your head out of your a$$ and start to treat people with some dignity and respect, you might be real surprise at the results!

Jerry, not your friend, your new coach!

Guess $400 is your 'Buy me Now' price, huh?

Zack,

I'm sorry if you're unhappy that I chose not to purchase your used Trilogy kit (complete with used parts) for a price that was far too close to the price of a fresh, new kit straight from Trilogy. You and I had civil conversations back and forth about the matter, and it turned out we weren't able to make a deal which was agreeable to both of us. I'm okay with that; apparently you aren't.

I told you on Sunday that if you weren't able to come down on your price, I was going to purchase a new Trilogy kit. So, about two minutes after receiving your PM stating your price was "firm," I called Jerry and informed him that I would be purchasing one of his kits. I was totally unaware at that time - and Jerry will confirm this - that he was going to be offering any type of discount on his kits.

I was completely willing to pay full price for the new Trilogy kit - and still would do so if Jerry requested it. (The truth is, Jerry could have charged me full price on Sunday when I called him on his cell phone and told him I wanted one of his kits. Amazingly, he didn't. Perhaps he knew already that he was going to be offering a discount, and figured it was good business practice to extend that offer to me, too. I don't know, what do you think?)

So, the bottom line is, the $400 discount was just icing on the cake. I guess you could say (in retrospect) it made your kit a really BAD deal, rather than just a really MARGINAL deal.

Personally, I think Jerry should tell you to take your kit and shove it up your A$$. He's been civil about it; you haven't. And, if you want to use the Trilogy kit as a $5,000 doorstopper (with all of your used parts attached to it), then do so and STFU about it.

Just a simple comment on that note, I do not feel this to be the case. Jerry is CEO of Trilogy Intl., not an engineer or technician responsible for R&D or development of the kit.

Jerry's primary role is to be a leader, foster and grow the ideas, and facilitate a place for the idea to become a reality. This includes offering the guidance, leadership, and support for the engineering teams to develop the kit.

Jerry has displayed a very high level of knowledge as to the intricicies of this kit, but should not be expected to be able to recite every detail of it's design parameters, or recall all of the choices that were made during design review of the product.

What I saw was that Jerry acknowledged the concern, and as a responsible CEO/Manager he elected to defer answering the question to not answer incorrectly and allow time to discuss the issue with the tehcnical and engineering staff.

In my eyes this was the correct way to do go about this.

The answer did not have to be immediate, or even quick. It had to be right. Even if it took 1-2 months to complete a design review and provide the correct answer that would be fine. And this is what was done by Jerry and his team, consultation with design and engineering staff, discussions, reviewing design docs and technical specs, etc.

In my eyes the response falls in line with engineering best practices, and I personally feel it was appropriate. In addition, I also personally feel adequate time was not given for the correct response to be gathered before applying the pressure for a more immediate response as happened.

Just my $0.02, and personal opinion, which I base on my own professional experience.

Sorry!

Jerry After selling Zack my car, This^ is exactly the way that I feel towards HIM. What Jerry has described is very accurate. And although I've met Zack in person, I've never even met Jerry Barnes. I'm simply a customer of his. Zack was one of the most fantastic people to talk to when I met him to make the sale of my car. While we were talking with one another, I thought to myself..."This guy is one of the most enjoyable car guys to talk to that I've ever met". But then in the weeks to follow, I've run up against a totally different person on this board, and through private messages as well.

Someone else from this board said to me.."Zack has incredible talent( meaning his mechanical abilities), but he ruins all of that with his online antics"...and I absolutely agree with that assessment. I've never met someone who has as much of a Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde persona as this individual possesses. For the life of me, I just cannot figure it out. But I no longer will put up with it nor turn the other cheek, because this person continues to enjoy creating strife and conflict on this board no matter how many times you make efforts to bury the hatchet with him. Apparently, he simply loves to antagonize and humiliate people. And it always comes right after he comes across to these same people as being their friend, and after those people go out of their way for him to extend their courtesy. ( very sneaky individual)....

Trust me, I would much rather have communicated this gripe in private via telephone, e-mail, or private messaging. But I've done that before with Zack, and it seems that when you confront him in a private and direct manner like that, you can get some honesty as well as mutual respect out of him, and you then are at ease and begin to think that you have actually made a friend. But then the guy comes across with that same old cocky attitude towards you on this board all over again. So you then realize, that the act of showing this guy respect, and treating him like a man by bringing your disagreements to him in private out of respect, just doesn't work. Because after you make peace with him, he just turns around and slams you on this board ( again). So you then realize, that this boy will never change, because he's simply comfortable with this Jekyll & Hyde persona that he has, and hasn't any conscience about betraying people left and right via his posts on this board.

Mercman,

I think it is a good thing to let everyone share their feelings on this topic. We have been sweeping it under the rug far too long. The "Zack Discount" thread was started based on accusations made by Zack. I for one, am sick and tired of the same trouble makers riding rough shot over these, and I will repeat this, "good and informative websites". And excuse my french, but it is bull****, bull****, bull****!!!!! If these guys are the braintrust they claim, go start their own website and watch people flock to read their words of wisdom. Make their own upgrades and modifications and watch the legends of followers adapt to their innovations. Let them show up at the ******ing track and put their money where their mouth is. Let me see them have customers, unsolicited, comment on the reliability of a product after 50,000 miles. Let's see them provide world class customer support, not because you have to, but because you want to. These Bozo's, and I mean no disrepect to Bozo because he does has integrity, love to crap on everyone and laugh about it as they sit alone at night with their best friend, the keyboard!

A request from me to the other members of the websites. This is my fight with Zack, please do not bring the other vendors into this disagreement. I will deal with my problems and they can deal with theirs. That's only fair.

If nothing else, this discussions should lead to some change in the websites or the websites will atrophy away and all of the good information and freindships will suffer. Let's deal with our problems head-on and cut the cancer away from the healthy body.

You would think that if they had half an ounce of brains they would recognize what smart people think of them and they would stay away or clean up their act.

My good friend Lidio told me last week that he avoided getting involved in this mess because he said "no good will come of it". Well I am pissed off and I am not going to let this bull**** continue. Either they go or I go.

I will start my own ******ing website and allow sane people to participate!!!!

This is my forum and I say let the discussion continue, but please leave the other vendors out of it. They have their own forums.

And Zack, if you want, I will come to Chicago this week to meet you face-to-face and give you my unvarished comments.

Thank You!

He doesn't know how to. his main goal is to grandstand just as Jerry has so accurately put it. I cannot believe how one board member has become a source of so much trouble to this board.

I agree one member is causing all the trouble. He needs help....

I know you will. And I understand the handshake offer is not a dig.

This thing has progressed way too far. It needs to be reigned in and turned 180. And, it needs to come from you. You have the power to make things better, if not right.

Zack, what Rich says there is correct and good advice.
Please, before posting again in this thread, re-read all of the posts that are directed to you.
You are taking these comments personally, when most of them are truly meant to help.

I've met you in person, I know you are completely different from your on-board portrayal.
I think you have difficulty with written expression. I'd like to think what you mean to ask and say is mostly different from what you write. It's all in interpretation and perception.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe there is a 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' game going on. I hope not.

If I'm not wrong Zack, you are the one who can change things, maybe even change the attitude of the few who mostly always respond in the negative toward you. You are a bright guy.

Jerry here is a open appeal to let this go, yes it your forum however no good will come of this public shouting match. Points were/have been made. Let's end it. Takes a MAN to walk away. Anybody can argue untill they are hoarse or in this case type till their fingers bleed.

Now lets get back to selling your S/Cer product.

Jim,

You have always been fair with me and I appreciate what you are suggesting, but if the owners of MM.Net don't examine this situation in detail they will have a diminishing group of participants. And this is your site to foster and support. I can leave anytime, but this is your website. It will hurt the owners more then it will hurt the people making an exodus from the website.

Please look at all of the past situations that have resulted in a nuclear meltdown on the website. Do you see a pattern? Do you see the same individuals involved in the mud slinging. Do you see the same people propogating the character assasinations? The answer is "YES".

Fix it Jimmy, before the trouble makers have moved on to a new viable website and left you and the other owners in the ashes.

I am saying this as a friend, a member and a supporting vendor, look at what is happening before it is too late for MM.Net.

We are adults on this site, some like me, much older. But, we come hear because there is a intelligent, friendly exchange occurring.

Fix It! Fix It! Fix It!

Don't wait, time is running out!

Zack will be delt with, that is a fact. Now lets pull up a chair and get a cold drink and start talking about our cars, marauders, that is why we are here.

I have an observation. Maybe it's off, but this is the way I've seen it unfold and maybe I missed something.

I first want to say Jerry Barnes is a true gentleman. I do not have a Trilogy and Mr. Barnes has always extended a helping hand with information and pretty much anything you asked of him, and that's over a period of years I don't want that misconstrued.

I acknowledge the problems with Zack and that is, what it is. But in reading the posts Zack hasn't posted anything in this thread(that I've seen) that was out of line or slanderous. About halfway through this it looks as though Bigdogjim closed his account which now appears under his name.

What I ask is, Did Zack get his account closed? and It seems that if it was that it wasn't justified by anything I have seen. If not then I missed something like I said.

If so, it seems way too heavy handed by the new regime and another example(of several) that this place is going to hell. If you think about it this thread has increased hits and interest, which is good for site owners I believe. My own opinion is too many owners want to be chiefs and the editing, deleting, PM's to edit etc. is really overboard

If you think about it this thread has increased hits and interest, which is good for site owners I believe. My own opinion is too many owners want to be chiefs and the editing, deleting, PM's to edit etc. is really overboardPerhaps it would be more in line if you asked a moderator this question in a PM rather than challenging them/him like this in front of the entire board. I only say that, because I used to be a moderator myself on another board for one year, and I viewed it as being disrespectful when people do what you just did. I'm not trying to get in any beef with you on this. I'm simply saying that your question could've been posed in a more tactful manner via PM. Don't you agree? The moderators of any board don't have to, and shouldn't have to answer to anyone in a public way as to how they do their job. Because none of us see what's going on behind the scenes whereas they do see that. It's their job to run the board, and how they see fit to run it should only be questioned in a private avenue that is directly to them instead of out in the open like this.

If your question is sincere, then there isn't any reason that it cannot be asked in private directly to a moderator. Otherwise, your question can be viewed as being antagonistic in nature. The way that any moderator(s) do their job is not open for a vote. Moderators are rarely voted in, and are therefore never voted out by the members of the entire board. Therefore there doesn't need to be a consensus nor a vote taken on how they do their job every time that they choose to take action. I hope that you can understand my point of view. And I'm also going to post this on the other board as well.Board mods are like referees in football or basketball games. The players cannot and should not be taking votes on the validity of the referees calls in an attempt to change them or overturn them. And if a player in a ball game is disrespectful to a ref, then he gets tossed. The same with board moderators. They're referees. Perhaps it wasn't intentional on your part, but by posing this question openly on the board like this, you're coming across as if though you're trying to push the moderators into giving you an answer, and that comes across as being disrespectful to the authority that they've been given to run the board, and it also comes across as being manipulative. So by asking the question on the board, you call into question the intent and motive of it to begin with.

Please don't take offense to what I'm pointing out to you. I'm just trying to give you a moderator's viewpoint on this since I've been in that position myself. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Those replies go over better at MCM.

Seeing as how most of the members over there already own the product...it's safe to say that one may say whatever one wants regardless of professionalism.

Potential buyers continue to find this (mm.net) site. The only thing stopping that is the fact that a google search yields MCM so friggin deep in the search results it's often missed.

Keeping it professional is likely a good idea.

After seeing how easily a friend of mine got his Kenne Bell across the border with a NAFTA certificate (zero duty), this seems like a good time to pick one up. Quick note to Canadians: RevCan or whatever outfit looks after such things actually does notice a supercharger. But, not at the border. They look at your Visa and compare trips to the states with expenditures. I actually heard this on an interview withthe agency a few years ago. People say they didn't buy anything, the gov't checks.
