There are no atheists in foxholes, so the saying goes. And perhaps that is true, because I received this email in my Inbox at work today:
Dear Friend of the Ford Interfaith Network,
No doubt many of you include Ford in your prayers. Would you be willing to share some of these prayerful thoughts?
We would like to compile some suggested prayers that we can all use, when praying alone or when we gather for prayer in our places of worship, including services held in our meditation rooms.
Here are 5 prayers I submitted. (The three "Bolder" collects are based on Ford's current 3-fold focus, the nature of which I think will be evident from the prayers, if not from the titles.)
For Excellence in our Calling
O Gracious Father, from whose hand cometh the high calling of commerce and the liberty of labour, grant to thy servants, the men and women of Ford Motor Company, the creativity, energy, wisdom, and perseverance to create excellent products, to the benefit of our customers and to the manifestation of thy great glory, which fills heaven and earth. Amen.
For Bolder Miles
O Almighty Father, who hast not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind, grant to the designers of Ford Motor Company the bold, creative spirit to follow thine example in making what is beautiful, that at the end of their labours the words might echo, and behold, it was very good. Amen.
For Greener Miles
O Sovereign Creator, by whose hand every green plant and every creeping thing was made to flourish in this good earth, give us a due sense of our calling as thy stewards over this planet, that we may always strive to create products which operate without destroying that which thou hast graciously created. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with thee and the Holy Spirit who hovered over the face of earth's waters when as yet no green thing had appeared, be all glory, forever and ever. Amen.
For Safer Miles
O Eternal God, who gave to thy servant Ezekiel visions of living creatures and of wheels, and later to thy servant Henry the vision to move living creatures over the earth by wheels, protect all who drive Ford Motor Company vehicles, that they may be kept from all peril on the streets and highways of our world, granting them pleasant travel, and at their journey's end, safe lodging and a holy rest. Amen.
For Quality
O Almighty God, of whose servant Daniel it was said, neither was there any error or fault found in him, guide us, by thine infinite wisdom, in the early detection and elimination of Error States and Failure Modes, that we might serve our customers well, and in serving them, serve thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Amazingly, I was unable to find an emoticon for Prayer, so perhaps this would be the closest one to use ... :bows:
