View Full Version : New Early MM Still in Showrooms?

As the owner of several CV (my current ride is 02 CV LX Sport) and running about 50K/year in miles (sales) I stopped by my local LM dealer yesterday (Mobile, Alabama) as I plan to change cars later this year, and wanted to see what they had for MM stock.
Anyway, they (Robinson Bros.) have (3) MM, I believe the original ones they ordered (one I checked had build date of 8/02). I asked about silver one (black is truly crappy here in deep South), they said they would order no more until these are sold.
If LM is going to have to do what they did with the Blackwood to dump them (I believe they finally got $10K in rebates, etc.) it would put the MM down in the level (or below) of the LX Sport, then even black might be tolerable given the performance/package tradeoff.
How many of you are seeing this in LM showrooms and how about some numbers?

A LM dealer in my area still has the original MM they recieved back in June 2002. Was in the showroom last summer, then sat on the lot this past winter and now it is back in the showroom.
Can't even give it away.

A local dealer has five #300A's in stock the newest built 9/02. He has most of them in the back lot although the owner drives one. They just don't seem to sell.

They don't/didn't sell due to cost. Once LM put the incentives on them I leaped on the car. If it had been brought out at the price everyone had seen in print, I would have had one of the first. But $35K was just to much for the car. It also didn't sell well in the hot climates due to the color. It might have taken off well in hot climates if it had been a lighter color......But, "L/M(Ford) did very little in the way of advertising."

Yes, there's still an original 300A with seat pockets, gas lock etc. at the L/M dealership here in Sycamore, Il.

The dealer next door to my shop where I bought my MM (Damico) and they seem to be selling pretty good. I talked to the salesman and he confirmed they are a good mover.

They "decontented" the seat pockets? I love those things!

When I went to the dealership the other day to get my CD changer back...I saw they had 7 Black MM's. All build dates in fall of 02. One or 2 spoilers....
To be honest...I may look to swipe a second in 6 months to a year...providing this one I have stays problem free....

jrc,
Still a couple of 300A's on the Astro LM lot here in Pensacola mixed in with some 300B's . No silver or blue here that I know of yet. I think they have sold 5 MM's this year and I have only seen one other on the road, the day I test drove mine.
I had the same reservations about the black here as well but it really isn't as bad as I thought it would be......and I love the way my black MM looks and runs.

I suspect that dealer, as others who have been keeping these on their "back lot" have done next to nothing to sell them.
Some dealers are still trying to add a premium to suggested retail, then taking off incentives.
The original "price" printed was not from Ford, it was in an article, repeated by other writers, and was a mistake. It priced the Marauder the same as a LXSport! Who would believe that was correct?
If that L-M won't order you a silver one, there are other dealers that will.

Silver, Blue or Black are all available in southern Missouri at decent (near give-away) prices; when considering the DEALER incentives.
As for Black being a potential heat permeation problem (south, or any where), the automobile with ADEQUATE insulation in the roof area AND a good, all window tint, should be reasonably acceptable. This summer will tell the tale as it will be my 'first' with this MM.
Additionally, the R134(A) refrigerant is no prize and (to my thinking) should promt FOMOCO to add sufficient insulation to ALL their products.

For your info, my 2000 CV LX HPP is black (with 100K gave it to my daughter to take to college. Even with a beige leather interior it was hot, hot , hot.
Anybody driving in the deep South as well, if you hit lovebugs with a black Fomoco anything, suggest you get them off within a day or you can kiss the paint goodbye! The surface temp is that much higher (than my earlier and current silver cars) that the crap in the bugs cooks right through. The 2000 looks like it was hit by a shotgun blast. The other useful piece I put on my 2002 is a Fomoco bug/stone plastic deflector for the front.
It looks like crap and does not hold at 80 passing a truck, but duct tape in the right places does wonders!

One thing they did do with these cars is put in a lot of extra insulation.
I don't know about the insulation, but I DO know that it's Mississippi and it's REAL hot! :)
