Details, details....

Selection of the cover plate between the block and flexplate:

The one from the MkVIII (where the Teksid block came from) is aluminum, the MM one is steel. Save a pound here, a pound there, it might add up to something, right?

SFI approved flexplate from PA (Performance Automatics):

The assembled engine in decent light:

Ain't it purty:

Another shot, with the flexplate installed:

From the back:

Look closely and you'll see the notch which was needed for the overdrive pulley to fit:

Some observations:
The oil pan is 8 qt, up from 6. It is gonna be pretty close to the driver's side header, passenger's side looks ok. On the passenger's side the tranny lines are gonna hit the sump so they gotta be re-bent. For sure I'm gonna put everything together on the engine stand/bench so I know it fits right before it is installed in the car. That'll be some nice pics, with the tranny, headers, intake, blower, and other accessories all bolted up!

Oh yeah, another observation: Some of the noise from the accessory drive belt was probably from the two idler pulleys and the water pump pulley which need new bearings. I'm replacing all the pulleys with Metco anodized aluminum pulleys and installed a whole new water pump which I bought from a MM member who changed his mind. I got over 60k from the Meziere electric water pump and the pump still works great, it just needs a bearing replaced for the idler pulley.

Looks very nice. How many cubic inches is that thing going to be? I remember you saying once that it will be up from 281, just cant remember what you said 324 maybe? Sure to be a monster once you get everything completed.

Yep, it's a 324 cid big bore/stroker.

Is that ALL????.....:D

Seriously...can't wait to see what a BUILT 5.3 Liter DOHC will lay down on the dyno!

:bows:

P.S. With a motor that 'purdy' I'd dab a little black or silver paint on the heads of the main cross bolts.

The shame of this radical buildup is I don't have a point of comparison. What would a 5.3 without the coatings, without the cryo, without the porting/valves be able to do? How does this compare? Mabe we'll never know.

Good point on the cross bolts, I hadn't been looking close enough. Good eye.

Looks great Brian. That represents a lot of dedication and devotion.

Now you just need a 1957 Ford to put it in :) ;)

Hot Damn Brian!!!!!! That is just too nice for words and a 324!!!!!!

:bows::bows::bows::bows:

BTW, I did not have any clearance issues with my Moroso street/strip pan and the tranny cooler lines. Is your pan that much different?

The Moroso Eliminator aluminum pan must be dimensioned a bit different. I believe you mentioned some clearance issues with the crossmember, but I pulled my pan to check for possible dipstick to baffle interference (it was ok) and measured it again, comparing to a stock pan. The depth provided at least 1/4" more clearance than the stock pan everywhere except the sump, which is a few inches further back from the crossmember than the stock pan. And the papers that came with it say it's 8 qt, a surprise since I thought it was only 7. Wow, with the full size filter I'm using that's gonna be 9 qt oil changes!

Brian: I see you stole my idea of using duct tape to hold it all together when you start making serious power.

Somebody said that imitation is the greatest compliment!

I figure I can't argue with success...

I know...

But even my tuner has stated that he's a bit scared because IF something happens it's a huge chunk of change.
