Yes, another oil thread. This info is not intended to promote my way of doing things, just to pass along what seems to be working for me.

For the last three oil changes I've sent samples off to Blackstone Labs for analysis. I have been using Mobil 1 5W20 and WIX filters. See the results narrative below. Silicone is on the high side. From what I have read, that means dirt could be passing through the air filter. I may put the stock air box and filter back in for the duration of this oil and see what they say next oil change.

CHARLIE: In terms of how much wear your Marauder is producing per mile, things are looking better

than ever. We don't know what caused silicon to read high a while back, but it's still coming down and
should improve even more in the next sample. The TBN read 4.8, still active additive remaining. We
consider a low reading to be 1.0 or lower. The oil was in good shape physically, containing no
moisture, fuel, or coolant. The oil filter is working well (see insolubles). Stick with 400-4500 miles on
the oil for now. This is a good interval for this engine.

I was very interested in this sample after a recent suggestion that a certian major modification I made to my engine could be causing premature engine failure.

Not to bad considering that I've driven it all over the east coast and deep into Florida with countless runs down the 1/4 mile on THIS oil. In fact, I dumped it as soon as I retuned from the Private Track Meet in Calverton Long Island!!

If anyone would like to take a closer look at the lab report, post up your email and I'll forward it to you. I will only forward to active members here with over 50 posts, no offence.

I used to do Blackstone samples on my power stroke diesel every oil change. It was nice to be told to do 9000 mile intervals when you have 16 quarts to change :D.

I don't see why anyone should be offended, Charlie. It's great info to share, and if it's not a huge file, why not post it.

I'd sort of like to see the format, not ever having submitted an oil sample to them. Um, if it's big, get Lisa to show you how to do an attachment we could click on.

Then again, you might just want us to send you a PM, ...asking for a copy.

Gotcha, thanks, Charlie.

BTW, you wouldn't want people like that darned Rich Long showing up on your doorstep, would you? :D

Hey, Rich, do you have data from Blackstone, before the addition of the S/C?
Frankly, I'd be shocked, if there was a difference; although the protein content may go up. (y'know, from birds & stuff getting ingested)

What is the cost of an oil sample?

What type of data needs to be logged and sent in with the sample?

Are they saying you should change your oil at 4500 mile intervals? On synthetic?

Yes I do Mike, I had a sample done on the last change before the install of #132. So, I need to get down to the shop and snag the little black bottle and get it in the mail...

Oh... and I know where Charlie lives, but his Guard Wife scares me away.

It'll also be the first full synthetic too ( mobil 1).

$20.00 for a base report, $30.00 if you want to find ouy how much "life" is left in the oil. I have been using them for a while with the E-350's at work and on Fords 5W-20(blend) I am going almost 8,000 miles now:) The marauder is on fully synthetic. (5,000)
They have a short form only looking for make, model, engine size, type of oil and miles on it, sample kits are free only cost is when you mail them, if you like to try one I have lots of 'em pm me an address I be happy to send one for you to try. (n/c:) )Postage on a full sample is $1.53 you can pay with a CC  [to Blackstone that is]
