Well, this all just happened today, I stoped at the Iowa Speedway to talk about renting the oval track, I didn't even know about the road course or drag strip.

We could do a combo of the oval track 1/2 a day and the drag strip the other 1/2

or the road course 1/2 day and the drag strip 1/2 day

Its slightly cheaper to set a date depending on what they are running for events, like if they are doing a road course race that week/weekend its better for us to do that on that time, same with the oval.

some track specs. are:

Track size 7/8 mile tri-oval
track width 60 feet with 20 foot apron
banking :
turns- 12-14 degree
front stretch 10 degree
back stretch 4 degree

Road course 1.3 mile - 40 foot wide

Either way im hoping to get 20 MMers or more (i know we have that in iowa, come on) that are interesting in doing this some time in 2007, if we get 20 the prices each would be around $200-$250

that includes the safety team, paramedics, the whole works.

that not bad at all for 8 hours of total fun!

Starting early here but I want to get people aware of this so they can maybe make plans and get in on this. When we get enough people we can decide which event/s we would like to do.

I'm not in your area but I think this is a great idea! I know you will have an absolute blast with this! Hope you pull it together.

Hmmm...that would be tempting. Could maybe reach it in 2 long days. Are you thinking a MV V kinda thing?

Are you thinking a MV V kinda thing?

that would be AWSOME

there are a few big hotels around newton, and it is right off of I-80 (goes right through Newton) im not telling anyone they cant come, the more the better (and cheaper for each)

go to yahoo maps and put in Newton Iowa to see if this is possible for you.

even if its not MV V, anyone who would make the trip I welcome u to get in on it

oh, i dont know if any of your are interested, but she said that they also let motorcycles on the track!

Im thinking this is my chance to actually play with the bike without the pesky red blue lights and sirens behind me

Google says; go to Des Moines and turn left. I would be in for the road course for sure. Less likely for drag racing and even less for oval.

Keep us posted please.

I would be interested, but I am interested to hear more about the drag strip as I didn't think that was a reality yet. Will it actually be completed and ready to use in 2007? Last I heard it was just a pipe dream.

This is actually a pretty big deal for Iowa. Rusty Wallace had a hand in the design and the track has a lot association with his name. They are doing a smaller NASCAR East-West battle next year and we also have IRL coming next year. Plus Hooter's Cup, etc.

I have heard potentially Trucks and "maybe" Busch, but will probably never see Cup cars race here do to current schedule and the changes that would have to be made to add 1 more race to the schedule. They were also testing the NASCAR "Car of Tomorrow" here last fall at some point.

EDIT: Could we open it to more than just Marauders? I have some friends from the Iowa F-Body group that would probably be up for that, too. Either road course or oval track mostly. They are a bunch of Corvette, Camaro, Firebird, and GTO owners and cool guys. I am the odd ball in the group as a I no longer have an F-Body.

I had the chance to run the ARCA race there back in october, had no # so...no race :(. I know we can get 20 people easily...just do we only want rauders? Like Eric i know other car classes that would want to join in

I might be able to get there to join the fun. Keep me informed of the plans and dates! Thanks to all who do the work to put these events on. With regard to other clubs/or cars participating, it really helps spread the cost and you get to meet some nice people. I have done such an event at Texas Motor Speedway sponsored by the Dallas Mustang guys. I brought the MM and a friend who brought his 5-series BMW. Great time.

I would like to keep it Marauder specific. If the numbers do not support it open it up to SVT vehicles and then other manufacturers. Just my two cents. I am sure the Twin Cities SVTOA (http://svtoatc.com/forums/) group would love to participate.

Good idea Jeremy.
The SVTOA clubs we've dealt with down here in FL are good guys, once they get over the "old man's car" syndrome!

If you can somehow incorporate this into Marauderville V, then I will definitely participate! You can count me in 100%.

Marauderville V in Iowa? Why the heck not?!

But, if it's not, then I simply can't make the trip. I wouldn't be able to justify the costs as I already have a track weekend scheduled for mid-May here in Texas.

I have a stock MM so would not be interested in racing, but I would definitely pay to be a spectator. I'm in for some cash, as I bet some other "spectator only" people may be also.

well that why i posted here before i start talking officially to other groups, the mustang club of central iowa (MCCI) are the ones i road coursed with in marshalltown,

i would like to keep it marauders only, if we can get 30+ marauders that say "im in" it would be below $200 each and we are by ourselves, and to those who are interested, but are stock, i say you dont know what your missing out on, these cars are amazing stock (i just have a JLT intake) and its so fun to road course!

The lady told me that YES, THERE IS A DRAG STRIP (in the arial pic it might be what looks like an airplane runway, but the newton airport is right next door) so i say it is good to go, i think to make the most amount of people happy we should go half and half on 2 events for a day, unless this does turn into a MV V thing and maybe one day on each, (i have no idea how to officially present this properly to the site) but i say first we get 30+ people to say im in no matter what type of racing we do
