View Full Version : Im scared to post this: IAT Relocation Pics
Start with a drill bit this size:
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/4/0/4/ToBeFiled003.jpg
This bit cost me about $35 bucks, the most expensive component of the project.
Drill hole here:

Use a 3/8-18 NPT Tap:

Install sensor part # DY-754 and corresponding pigtail part # WPT-322, both Motorcraft #'s. Note: install the sensor AFTER the lower manifold is in place on the engine, because the sensor will not clear the relocated coolant tube.

Inside view:

Installed in the car:

To hook up the sensor, simply cut the 2 outermost wires on the MAF harness and hook them up to the 2 wires in the pigtail. Orientation of the wires does not matter.

Then it'll be on Ebay.
Yeah, good luck with that.

Did you correct the tune for the new location?

Yeah, good luck with that.

A lot of things are sold there, and it sure will not hurt to try. The pictures were clear and precise Zack, let us know about the numbers after you have it tuned.

Nice work. I'll be doing something similar whenever I go to the KB, so I can connect the sensors for my Autometer IAT gauge. One before and one after the intercooler.
Zack,
While waiting for the tune, use ProRacer and normalize all the entries under Returnless_Fuel_Pump -> Injector_Pressure_Drop_Change_ With_ACT. Otherwise the fuel pressure will gradually rise as the engine warms up causing it to go too rich. 39 worked good for me but YMMV.
I found this one myself last week and it made mine run much better.
John
Thanks John, I noticed that function looks close to stock in the T-tune.
That'll help in the short term till I get it tuned.
I really dont want to beat on it until I know its safe.
I hope to make 450 rwhp and call it a day.

Ya know, that's an exercise in having a conscience.
If Zack intended to flip the car thru Ebay, why go thru the trouble of making the car the best HE BELIEVES it can be? Why not just pour some Marvel Mystery oil in it and sell it? Cuz brother man has a conscience.
Ya'll read all kinds of stuff into Zack's posts. Try this point of view on for size.
Zack, dude. Thanx for the pics and step by step.

I'm looking forward to seeing the final results.
Looks easy to do, too. Once you have the manifold out, anyway.

+2... Zack has always been and still is contributing to the performance of our cars. The CRAP he takes sometimes is EFF'd up!

This is definitely the easier way to go about the IAT sensor relocation. The Whipple, KB, and OEM Cobra sensors (and probably the "official" Trilogy one) require 3 holes of 2 different sizes, precisely located between one another, two of them tapped, and the third one finished smooth enough for an o-ring seal.
Zack! don't forget you still have a stock short block!!!

+3! Zack is a great guy. He knows his stuff, and tells it like it is.
And if you hang out with him and have a few Blue Moons, you quickly find out he can be a lot of fun, too.

Just an excuse to throw the forged shortblock in if it blows!

Ah, the real reason pops up, "honey I broke my motor so I can't sell the forged block now".

Is this something only for FI (Force Induction) cars?

Uh, in my case, it is ;)

I have a second account for my toys and all sales of cars and parts go into that and the wife has no say about it.

Yes. NA cars can keep the IAT sensor in the MAF.
I worked on the Trilogy car this weekend and found you can relocate the IAT sensor with the lower manifold in the car.
There is just enough room to fit the drill and bit in the space and make the hole.
Run the tap from the outside in and install the sensor.
