I was talking to a friend who is a police officer in Newark NJ and he told me about a product called Ravelco theft deterrent system. I have never heard of it before and checked out their website. They claim that no car has ever been stolen with their system installed. I am ready to pull the trigger on this one but wanted to know if anyone has heard of them or has any info good or bad.
Thanks

Ravelco is a PITA to install. Try the Cyclops anti theft system.....I have that...Just replace your Fuel Pump relay with their Relay, and you just use a coded remote or a coded cigarette lighter plug.
I Maybe could do a group buy if theres enough interest. Its around 100 bucks or so....

The Ravelco system is only installed by certified installers.... you can't buy one and install it yourself. The Cyclops system looks good....

All you need to do is replace the Cyclops relay with the factory relay.

...would either system prevent a wrecker from snatching a car?

That is an interesting idea Wes....we DO have that AUX Socket in the Center Console. Hmmmm.......
Does the relay look JUST LIKE any other relay, or is it "special"?

"The Ravelco works with other security systems
The Ravelco does not interfere with other alarms or tracking systems installed in your vehicle. No other system is affected by the installation and use of the Ravelco. For owners who want to have multiple layers of protection, an alarm, anti-theft device, and/or a tracking system, the Ravelco is the perfect fit"
Our ignition keys are coded to the vehicle, I'm thinking these systems are redundant to what we already have. A thief could take a car in a minute or two with a wrecker. A tracking system might be the only chance of recovering a car.

A tracking system might be the only chance of recovering a car.Even though our keys are coded, Marauders are still on the 10 most stolen vehicle list. The fact that Ravelco has not had one single car stolen is what intriques me. I asked my buddy who is a Newark NJ officer about LOJACK and other traditional systems and he told me he knows that there are ways to defeat all of them but he has not heard of anyone that has figured a way to get a car with Ravelco outside of towing it, which is extremely rare. So yes, it could be looked at as redundant but I see it more as a fail proof backup to a coded ignition key.

Lojack, would be my only choice since I have a starter kill switch and battery turn off key installed somewhere in my car. It's a pain in the butt to turn things off at night but worth it and only way someone is taking my car is by a wrecker if they can get around 3 other vehicles in my driveway lol.

They claim that no car has ever been stolen with their system installed.
The keyword here is claim. When was this claim made would be my question. Was it made on the first day the device was offered for sale? For example Ford could claim that not one Mercury Marauder has been stolen if they make the claim on the day the first MM's came down the assembly line.
Ever noticed how every car manufacturer claims they have the top selling car/truck. It all depends on what criteria and when the claim was made.
Here's another example of the point I'm trying to make. Do you realize that ebay claims that they have only 1/10 of one percent fraud on their website. Anyone that is familiar with ebay knows that percentage is nowhere near the real amount of fraud but because ebay only uses fraud reports that result in a criminal conviction they can get away with that absurd claim.
And lets not get into all the cell phone companies who each claim they have the lowest number of dropped calls.
Remember if the thief really wants your car no amount of alarms/anti=theft devices will stop them.

There are ways to defeat any alarm system / GPS locator / etc. What you want to do is make stealing you vehicle unactractive to a thief so he'll look elsewhere. Same thing with a house. If you have a sign that says protected by whomever, even if you don't have a security system, and the rest of the houses on your block don't have any signs, what would a thief do? He'd break in the other houses.
Just like wheel locks. If there are 2 MM's side by side and one has wheel locks on and the other doesn't, wouldn't a thief take the easy way out and take the wheels without the locks?

IMO a vehicle tracking device has the best chance of recovery if stolen.

Looks just like a stock relay. Nobody is gonna know unless you go blabbing around. :D And even then you have to have the coded relay.
I'd be interested in the Cyclops.
Talk to your local cops. See if they have the Lojack tracking equipment in their cars. Chances are they do NOT. Lojack is only good if your car gets stolen. I want to prevent mine from BEING stolen. I don't want it back after some scumbag has driven the peewaddy out of it and trashed the interior out.
To help prevent a wrecker from picking your car up, back into your parking space. Set the e-brake, and turn the wheels. They can still pick it up, but it becomes a PITA at that point, and takes a lot more time. Time is your friend.

Personally, I would like Lo-Jack to allow the police to use "overwhelming force, with extreme prejudice" when apprehending car thieves. Fearing for their lives, they could riddle my Marauder with bullits, with my blessing, if a suspect appears to be armed, and resists arrest.

Lojack also installs an alarm sysyem.
I the take your car with a flatbed you'll get it back with LoJack.:D
