There is a rumor being floated that some of us (me included) were flagged so that we would purposely have trouble logging on.

I contacted one of the admins and was thereafter immediately able to get on line.

I asked privately (twice) what the deal was on whether the rumor was true and got no response to my inquiry.

So, admins, what's up?

Nonetheless, 91 views and yours is the only reply I got. And, no offense, you aren't even a moderator.

My question still stands.

It makes it a pain in the azz for the particular user to log on.

I know what Marty is trying to say.

If I clear my cookies I have no problem zipping through the site. If I log with my user name it goes very slow or not at all.

I have yet to see any of the administrators answer this question. Btw, it is not just the two of us but quite a few others having this problem.

If I'm going to be blocked or inconvience then please send me back the remaining money I have contributed.

Hi Marty,

I had the same exact thing today. Then poof... it was back to normal.

It wasnt affecting Charlie's lap top in the other room, and when I did finally get through to the site, I got a message that "searching" for anything was no longer an option.

But yet at the same exact moment, Charlie's lap top, like I said, had nothing of the sort. :cool4: My snafu lasted a minimum of 8 hours. I tried to check on the site in the morning, then painted all day, and tried again around 6 pm.

In any case... I think I saw Mark start a thread about Ebay. Gots to check it out. Hopefully its not about car stuff  :D

It makes it a pain in the azz for the particular user to log on.

Earlier today I opened a new window and used it to start mm.net. It gave me a screen that said I had to log in.
I closed the window and started a separate Tab to open mm.net, and mm.net came right up without having to log in. Does that mean I was 'blocked purposely' for 1 or 2 minutes?
I don't think so.

I've been admin/mod on a few boards and i've never seen an option to just make 'logging in difficult' for some users. You can Bann using a few methods, but that's it.

Again, this is more of the same of what has been going on lately with certain people. Hysteria, paranoia, and Chicken little syndrome.
'Somethings wrong, must he mm.net against me.'

Not only is it possible, but it seems incredibly LIKELY that this is exactly what's been going on.

Why is it that only the MCM.com guys seem to be having this problem and nobody else? But, then again, seeing as how most of the owners of this site spend half their day trolling around MCM.com, maybe it's not all that surprising after all.

And why is it that nobody (owner/admin) on this site has bothered to issue a reply to Marty's question? He wasn't being rude about it. In fact, nobody's been rude about it. The people on MCM.com, who are the apparent targets of these shenanigans, haven't even been rude about it. They're baffled by the situation, but that's about as far as it goes.

Marty simply asked a question and the people in the know on this site apparently don't seem to want to respond.

I don't know any of the personalities here but I can address a few of the questions here.

About a month ago we switched servers - That may have resulted in some of you needing to flush dns as was mentioned. Our DNS and IP addresses didn't actually change BUT Flushing DNS couldn't hurt.

In the server switch I have implemented a VERY strict firewall - Its designed to keep all kinds of bad things off the server. Including brute force attacks, ddos attacks, malformed urls, and lots of other kinds of problems. The down side to any strict firewall is that you get a few false positives. There have been a few MM.net users who were blocked by the firewall. I have been informed of those problems and in response, I have tweaked the firewall settings to minimize the false positives even further.

The server has been running great since the upgrade and we have almost zero down time since the upgrade. If you are having trouble with the site first thing I would do is logoff and delete your browser cache and delete any MM cookies. If those things dont fix your problems, I would then look to spyware on your PC or a problem with your Internet connection. Universally agreed as the most common source of problems.

I agree Marty. All of us long time contributing (both on a content and financial level) members need an answer.

Now that I know the background information that prompted your request, the issue is, is that is what is going on, or has there just been a suggestion of that hack having been applied, and if so, why has that suggestion been made?

If it is only a suggestion, then my premise of hysteria, paranoia, and Chicken Little syndrome is correct, or perhaps not deep enough.

If such a 'hack' has been applied, it was not in the best interest of anyone.

I honestly don't know; but it happens to me all the time, so I just go away and upon returning it's magically fixed ...or not.

Many of our folks who visited MMV IV this fall had trouble getting on the site from Florida, including Mary. Sometimes it's our web guy doing stuff, sometime some guy in Russia hiccups, who knows, I just go away and come back later.

Meanwhile, since we're having this discussion, could anyone tell me why it takes so long to get anything done in our court system?

Mike: I first raised my question at around 4:00 p.m. and was able to gt on within seconds after being contacted by an admin. However, despite asking twice, in private, what the deal was, I have gotten no reply to my direct question.

Now, I have been around this site for four years now. I know a number of the admins pretty well. At least well enough to know that they are internet junkies just like me. So, it only stands to reason that they have seen this thread. And, like I said in an earlier post, I am pretty sure that the "ALF" member name is controlled by an admin, so at least one of them has been on line.

Well, in any event, I worked all day yesterday and pretty deep into the night. I will be working again most of today so hopefully I will get the courtesy of a reply at some point today.

And, if any of the members are bothered by this thread, remember it was posted to the admins and no you!

FWIW .... I have also had problems in logging in about the time this upgrade kicked in. There were lots of "Page not Found" and DNS Server errors whether I was at home or at work. So, I don't really think that anyone has been targeted for anything. No conspiracy either. Since replacing my computer during the holidays with an upgrade, I have not experienced any more issues. It does seem a little odd to me though that a practically unknown member would find and reply to this thread before the folks that were asked the question. Even if they posted some BS like "I apologise for the technical difficulties you have experianced, we are currently investigating the issues and will have an official response as soon as we discover the root of the problem" (with correct spelling of course) At least that would be something.

You're being a Lawyer in court again Marty. You ant a simple yes or no answer. Reading over the thread again it looks like a no answer has been given, in so many words other than no.

The real question that needs to be asked is, What has transpired here?

You've been around here for a long time, and know what has happened in the past.
The sale of mm.net was not the sudden start of 'over moderation'.
That cry existed here for as long as mm.net has existed. Logan was probably more heavy handed with the buttons than the current owners have been.

A hand has been played here for sure, but it isn't one that hasn't been played by a few before. This time the 'guys in yellow jackets' have done their job well. The result has been the realisation of the dream of a whole new 'National' Marauder board. One that isn't this one, because Logan apparently chose to sell to the wrong people. At least that is what we have been led to believe. Many of the newer members who know none of the history, and some others who have forgotten it or been oblivious to it have been completely taken in.

So what is next?

Yes, but what Marty really wants to know is, has the "Miserable Users" hack cited been installed and employed here in the last few days, or are some people just hysteric, paranoid, and suffering from 'Chicken Little syndrome' ?

This indeed is the question, and it hasn't been answered. It shouldn't take more than about two seconds to "research" the answer.

Either it has been installed and it is readily available and used by the admins, or it has not. Period.

This is not a difficult question to answer.

Either the admins have done something (such as utilizing the "miserable user" program) to make it difficult for certain members to access this site, or they have not.

How friggin' hard is this to comprehend, people?

So, I'll word it like this:

Have the owners of this site (admins, moderators, etc.) done anything or installed any program which would make it difficult for certain members to login or access this site in any way, shape, or form?

YES or NO?

Quit dancing around the issue and just answer the question.

Read my post above yours. what you want an answer to is a "smoke and mirrors" question.
The real issue here has nothing to do with the last few days, weeks or couple of months.

Yes, we are too small of a community for all this silliness
