Can I unplug the steering wheel air bag and reconnect it without disconnecting the battery??
I don't want to disconnect the battery since it resets the "Adaptive Learning" and it takes several days to settle down again......but I don't want a face full of air bag either!! :shake:

I would unplug. Better safe than sorry.

+ One Million!
An air bag deployment is a controlled explosion. Nothing to fool with bud!

Working with air bags is a dangerous proposition, and that is AFTER the battery is disconnected. I wouldn't dream of trying it with the battery still connected.
Air bags are known to break the wrists of drivers depending where their hands are on the wheel when the bag goes off. Imagine what it will do to your face? :run:

Well folks.....
If the airbag on the steering wheel is THAT dangerous....I want it removed!!!:argue:
Riding around with a "BOMB" on my steering wheel seems to be irresponsible on the manufacturer's part......IF they are that touchy and dangerous??
I KNOW what airbags do guys......just wondering if they deploy by themselves....I've never heard of that happening?? It would appear that with the key OFF there would be no power to deploy them??
I'll call my dealership Service Manager and see what precautions they take when handling the "BOMBS" we ride around with daily!!:shake:
I'll report what I find out....Stay Tuned!!;)

Well.. I don't know if I would call it a bomb... but an airbag deployment is not a pleasant experience. Sort of like a fighter pilot having to use an ejection seat. It is the best one of two bad options!
My wife was in an accident with airbag deployment. She was wearing sunglasses and sustained a cut on her nose and some abrasion on arms and face from the bag. Of course there was the talcum like powder EVERYWHERE.
If I recall, when working around the Miata, there were warnings concerning static electricity, etc.
I am not sure the ignition off is a guarantee at all... the bag might be powered regardless.

I know once there out...
u can put objects on the bag and use a 12volt barttery and a small length of wire to launch stuff....
hey everyone gets bored sometime...

An insurance adjuster told me of another adjuster that leaned into the window to check the mileage on a damaged car, the airbag went off and broke the guys neck

I had one go off in my ear at Wixom Assembly while adjusting the lft frt door on a Lincoln LS. Two inches lower and in would've went off right in the side off my head. I'd say unplug it Jack, no need for us to read about a mishap.

Now this right here makes me wonder who is liable in a situation like this?? If these things are so dangerous how the heck can safety minded folks allow them to be?? Heck.....at someones request (probably the Mother of a kid that was killed by one) you can now turn the passenger's side bag OFF!!??
I guess they save more lives than without them but seatbelts mean more overall IF folks use them!!
I guess I'll just leave it alone for now.........
Thanks for the replies!!;)

There are also reports of airbags deploying while just driving down the road.
