Hi guys, I just picked up a 23k mile 03 Marauder. I sold a low mileage 03 Acura TL-S to buy this car, so the Marauder, by comparison, is a huge tank and is nowhere near as agile.
The steering ratio on the Marauder is the slowest passenger car ratio I've ever driven on a newer car (it feels like 1960s-70s Detroit power steering). Way too much hand over hand type steering.
Does someone offer a bolt in replacement steering rack that is faster ratio?
Thanks
Steve

From what I know. Nope. The MM steering gear, I believe, is actually quicker in ratio than its Grand Marquis, and Crown Victoria sibling. The part numbers are definitely different.
BTW, Welcome Aboard. Enjoy your New ride.

The size goes away with miles.
My first car was a 1978 Mercury Marquis that's much longer/wider than a Marauder. Nevertheless, after years of driving SHO Tauri, the MM initially felt a bit like a whale.
But no more... it really doesn't feel any larger than our 528i though I know it is!
Best of luck with your new hot rod.

Put the upgrade sway bars and control arms on and bite your tongue!
I came from FWD Hondas. Learn to stear with the power and the rear end!
I was faster than an SVT focus on a closed circuit track!!!! How's that for 'agile'?!

Shoot. The steering is definitely way too slow for me. I'll have to live with it for now. The rack may be valved differently than the Crown vic racks but I bet the ratio, if not the same, is similar.

Here are some specs. The rack ratio for the marauder from what I found is 16.9:1 on center. 2.9 turns from lock to lock. Just some info for ya. :)

Depends on what you are used to, I guess. It's much more responsive than the crown vics I have owned. Even seems a little tighter steering to me than the wife's mustang. Keep in mind this is a luxury sedan, not a gokart. :) Might also want to check your front tires closely, make sure they are not work badly. It made a huge difference when I went from balding to new tires some time back. 23000 miles is right about where I was with the OEM tiers badly balding.

Hi,
Can't really offer much of an answer to you - but if you wouldn't mind - take a minute and share with us what got you out of the Acura and into the Marauder. Apparently it wasn't the handling?
