View Full Version : Cold air intake?
I find it amusing that everyone on the Crown Vic boards is putting MM airboxes and MAFs on their CVs, yet when you get over here, the JLT intake seems to be favored. Is the JLT that much better than the OEM airbox? I really noticed a difference on my CV with the MM airbox and a tune, plus I really like the convenience of the paper filter. I remember cleaning foam filters from my dirt bike days, and don't really want to go there again.
Thoughts?

Most MM owners are ditching the airbox and zip tube for one of three aftermarket vedors. In no particular order they are PHP, JLT and K&N .
Again most MM owners keep the stock MAF as its good until you are SC'd. Most OEM stuff just sucks all around although the MM OEM intake was the best ford has made. As long as an improvement in airflow is made you have made a good choice.
I think I can speak for everyone when I say the SOUND from aftermarket intakes is really where the grin comes from although there are about 10 hp 10 tq to be found in the aftermarket kits.
Ive got a K&N on the way for the Trilogy car.
Cant wait to see the results.

I've had no problems with my JLT and I love it. Noticed a bit of power too.

I have had my JLT for almost a year now and I dont have anything bad to say about it or Jay Tucker....The product is top notch and so is Jay. I had a minor issue with the heat shield and he sent out another no questions asked!!
As far as the cleaning goes....it may take a little longer than just replacing a paper filter, but it is not difficult to clean by any means.
I think it is much better than the OEM MM air box.

JTL is cool. One big pipe, and isn't that what it's really all about? Also, service after the sale is top notch.
The JLT was my choice because of performance, cost and looks. Since then I find the company as added heat shields. I also found that the JLT kit accomodated the mounting of my nitrous nozzle.
If bling is your thing there is a chrome like heat shield on e-bay that sets off the installation rather well. See North Texas Marauder gallery for pics.

Cleaning a foam filter?
the K&N that comes with the JLT's is an oiled cotton gauze type filter, not an oil bath type..

I look at CAIs as enhancing the other mods.... I have a PHP airbox that attaches to the stock tube, a Reinhart tune, and Magnaflow mufflers. The mufflers and the CAI help the car breathe better, and the tune recognizes and takes advantage of the increased airflow through the system. The three together make for a peppy MM, even more fun to drive than when it was stock.

Same difference. It still has to be cleaned and reoiled.

Please pardon the hijack, but does anyone know where i can find a CAI to fit my '03 Grand Marquis?
I can tell a big difference in HP and torque after installing the dual exhausts, now I'm itching to clear the snot out of her nose so she can breathe.
I checked the JLT site but there doesn't seem to be a part for the GM.

I've been less than impressed with the quality of K&N-style filters, especially in the seal material. They have large air pockets in the material that break open over time if they aren't made properly (applies to K&N-brand filters as well as the imitations). The other thing is that the JLT setup isn't quite made for the Crown Vic. The inlet tube is going to be different, and the JLT costs more than the factory MM airbox and MAF. Keep in mind the bulk of the Panther community (outside of the Marauders) aren't making a lot of money and don't have the disposable income. That said, the Marauder airbox/MAF's air transfer function is very impressive for a factory airbox. It'd be interesting to see what it can do on a S197 Mustang GT.
