View Full Version : Boost gauge reads 7psi at WOT
Before I pulled everything apart, it read 9.5.
Now, the gauge reads 7psi at WOT.
I think the belt might be on its last leg and causing slippage.
Look at these pics of the tensioner:
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/4/0/4/DSC02439.JPG
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/4/0/4/DSC02440.JPG
The pics dont show it, but it is clear the tensioner arm is hitting the stop because it is very shiny where the 2 surfaces contact.
For reference, I did not touch the bypass valve adjuster, and it works fine.
All mating surfaces are sealed up tight.
Did you guys have to retorque the intake gaskets after some break-in time?
Thanks in advance for the help.
There is a 51" Gatorback belt on it now.
I just picked up a 50.5" Gates belt to replace it with.

Do you have another guage you can try? Maybe the guage is misreading? I know it read fine earlier but worth a shot if you have a spare.

Yes I do.
Maybe I knicked the vacuum tubing during all of the engine swapping.
Would make sense more air would be lost under boost than vacuum.
What size belts are you guys using with the smaller pulleys?

I heard that with the 3.0 it drops an inch.
Maybe Tallboy could shed some light on this?

Lots of popcorn being consumed recently here, our smilies are gonna get fat eating all that popcorn.
But, this time it was for tech reasons, so that's good news!! :)
BTW Zack, how does the gauge sit at idle? Should be around 20 vac (with a stock pulley that is, which I assume based on the pic you posted).

Vacuum door?
If you are referring to the boost bypass valve then yes, it was falling off when I drove it home but I since glued it in place.
Are you talking about something in the climate control?

If you broke that boost bypass valve and repaired it with glue, I'd repace it. I cracked Senecas EGR vacuum fitting during his Procharger install and repaired it with glue. It lasted for the test drive.
As for going to MCM.com and starting crap, the Admin there requested that practice to end.

Is that all it would take for it to end here as well?????
It's that simple????

The housing didnt crack. Its a 2 piece unit: The diaphram is in a shell and that is located on a metal base.
The 2 just seperated.
The glue is holding fine.

It won't end, how many times have the promises been broken?
I cannot recall how many times I argued to a draw with the same people ref. my Procharger kit. A thread would be closed...ect. Then a week would go by and I would be back defending myself to the same people, doing the same old tactics. Same old story. Same old myths and innuendos resurfacing.
This circle is the same on other issues too. History is proven.
Were all waiting to see if the same old story by the same old players is going to be tolerated by the new owners. If tolerated, we'll all be back to the same old positions in a week or two.
Sorry to jack your thread Zack.

WTF broken promises? It could just be a broken guage or boost line. So far the popcorn is for technical diagnostics, ...so far...that is.

Just to be sure Zack, that's a Gatorback on there, not one of those stupid Dayco's with the checkerboard pattern, right?
When my first belt went bad due to a misinstalled pulley, I bought a Dayco to get moving. When I got the new Goodyear from Trilogy ( overnight delivery n/c) the difference in boost was 3-4 lbs!

Yes I know what your talking about. Chapter 6 paragraph 8 page 69 of the trilogy install manual specifically mentions:
Under NO circumstances handle supercharger unit or supercharger intake assembly by holding the Bypass vacuum actuator. This can cause severe damage to actuator
If you patched it up, I suggest you replace it.

Jim you're one of the moderators and one that i've met. Personally I think you're a nice guy so I want to ask you this in the open forum. With all the disputes and *****ing going on right now, As a moderator don't you think this Tread should be in the Garage instead of Trilogy Motorsports. Its like putting salt on a open wound. Zack has a Trilogy car now and most of us know. We also know that he's modified it and that he also has a personal beef with the CEO of Trilogy. Now keep in mind that I don't have a supercharger and I'm in the air between Procharger and Trilogy. Saying that I don't have Loyalty to either and i'm not apart of the supercharger cults. Its obvious to onlookers what going on. As a Moderator and like I said I think you're a nice guy, maybe this should be somewhere else. Everyday we find out somethng thats F'ed up with this car. If Zack is looking for honest tech help then put this in the Garage or something. I come to this site for tech help and to learn but its getting more unbearable by the day... THank You hopefully I didn't offend anybody and don't look forward to getting any cheap shot thrown at me. If anybody has a problem with me or my comments I would suggest a PM and we will go from there as how to solve the problem even if it means a personal meeting.

If you do not have a check valve between your intake and your PCV valve and the main vacuum line feeding the accessories, then you should install one. The PCV valve was not designed to hold boost and it will allow manifold pressure to bleed into the crankcase.

Typically I see 1psi vacuum at idle.
When driving I typically see 7 to 9 psi vacuum.
If only I could keep my SPA gauge back light working....:shake:

Yup. Just looked at it again in DC traffic (almost risking an accident (stupid Badger)):coolman: .
In drive, brake on,0 mph, -1.0.
Driving at less then 1/3 throttle -8 to -9psi.
At full boost it goes to 9.5.
I have the SPA conneted via a "T" fitting to the boost-a-pump switch. Approx 4' of tubing between there and the fitting on the adaptor plate.

The Autometer boost gauge that are typically installed read vacuum in inches of mercury (in Hg.) instead of negative pounds per square inch (psi). The conversion to psi = in Hg x 2.036, so -9 psi would be about 18 in Hg vacuum. Sounds about right.
The drive on, brake on of -1 psi has me stumped though. Sure it isn't -10 psi?

Sorry it took me awhile to post. Had to get stitches put in my oldest daughters head. School accident.:(
It's weird...last time I checked at the light I was reading -9.0 psi in drive, 0mph.
Other times I've seen -1.0psi. I haven't had the time to check out the guage.
Its a SPA technique dual gauge, boost on top and fuel pressure on bottom.
