Well, as the title states, I found this 1969 Marauder X100 last week sitting in the driveway of an empty house and finally met up with the owner yesterday. She inherited it with her dad's estate. He owned a Lincoln/Mercury dealership in a small town here in Va. This is the last vehicle that she inherited that she hadn't yet sold. This old X100 had obviously been in the driveway for several years and hadn't been started, but I put in a battery and fed the old 429 4V from a gas can and she fired right up and sounded great. It has a pecking lifter, but otherwise runs like a gem. I drove it about 10 miles home.
I really didn't need another vehicle, and I'm not sure what I'll do with it yet.:)

That's the original color, but not the original paint. It was painted red at some point in the past.

Nice find!! I saw a red '65 at a car show this weekend..didn't realize they made them in red...unless it was a repaint, didn't look that close.

Goes to show they are still out there.

Change the oil and add a little Marvel Mystery oil. It might just take care of that tick.

Ya might want to check the build sheets for that year and how many 429`s were sold.Could be a rare find.

What did you pay for it, if you dont mind me asking?

I still think the 429 4V was about the best normal duty (non-exotic, ie 427 side oiler, Boss 302, 429) motor Ford ever made. When I was a teenager my parents had a 71 Country Sedan wagon with a 429 4V. It would bury the speedo over 120 and I remember kicking my pals 64 GTO 4 speed TWICE in the quarter mile. It would shred the tires on any start. My Dad wouldnt let me swap the motor with my Torino's 351W 2V. Have fun with your X-100.

It's not just a vehicle, it's a Marauder. You gotta keep it. Sell something else if you have to to "Make Room For It".

This may be a bit unorthodox (if I may use that word) but, to quiet that tick I have changed out the oil and filter and run 50/50 with ATF and 5/30 for 50 miles of easy driving and then do another oil & filter change. Set it up with your favorite oila nd see what you get.

Sometimes, the detergent in the ATF will free up a sticky lifter, or clear out an obstructed oil passage. Sometimes not.

Good luck. I have been looking for an old Merc for my Son, but i feel it a bit unwise to put a new driver behind the wheel of a car with a good old fashioned V-8 under the hood.

You are a wise man. Nothing wrong with a V8, just not a huge displacement torque monster V8. Maybe a nice retired cop car? My first car was a Mercury Monarch with V6. Ick.

That's an excellent idea. I had heard that a long time ago but never had the need to try it, so I changed the oil in it last night and substituted a quart of good old Type F to see what it will do. I forgot to mention in my first post that this old 429 will also shred the tires from a stop like Vortex mentioned about his Dad's old '71. If you don't believe me, just ask my neighbors! :D :burn:
They were cleaning their front windows on Sunday and I buried them in a cloud of tire smoke! I knew the old Marquis had a pile of low end torque, but I believe this one has it beat. I think the Marquis is a little heavier too, at a modest 4920 pounds empty, she's a big old girl!

Yes, the 429 was a great engine. I put a 69 429 Thunderjet into the 70 Mustang I had in High School. I think they were underrated at 360 hp. That car would light the tires up if you punched it even rolling along at 10-15mph! It had a big bore and short stroke, big valve, closed chamber heads and revved like a smallblock! I never lost a race when moving at a rolling start, from a standing start it would burn the tires off, It had the trac-loc rear end too!

Agree...something big, so it's safe...older, so that if it gets bruised it won't be a crisis...but go with the V8. :) My first car was a '79 Malibu with the 267 V8...short on HP but enough torque to feel like it had some power. Got me through high school and the first two years of college (and has been patiently awaiting revival ever since then...)

I don't mind you asking, but I'd rather not say. You really don't want to know. I just found a set of these magstar wheels on eBay and realized I got a better deal on the X-100 than I realized!

Engine update: I'm replacing the cam & lifters to eliminate the lifter tick. After seeing the condition of the top side of the heads and the top of the block, I see why this old 429 runs so strong. It has obviously been rebuilt in its very recent history (usage-wise), because it's clean as a pin inside!

429-4V V8,C6 trans, and a 9 inch rear...that's about as bulletproof an OEM combo as you can get!!!

Great find and a SWEET ride!

I rebuilt the carb (Holley 4452), replaced a few internal engine parts, and got a good look at it on the inside. I also beadblasted & repainted a few exterior engine components.
Still have more engine detail work to do as time allows.
Here's a few pics...

Hey 69 Marquis Conv, nice find. All you need now to complete your collection is a Colony Park like mine. I put the magstar wheels on and really love the look.
