Saturday, 27 January seems to be a good date to try this again. Doors open at 10 AM. I plan to arrive between 10:30-11:00 AM. Can meet up at the FORD display area at noon.

As in years past, a short walk to the Capitol Brew Pub for eats :food: and drinks  at about 5 PM might be arranged.

I'll be there. :)

Doesn't seem to be running quite as long this year...but I do agree the 27th looks like the best day.

I went to the SJ, CA auto yesterday, If you have never gone to an auto show you must go!

In my area they have Rolls-Royce, Bently, Ferarri, Maserati, besides the Toyotas, chevys and Fords. Each make has their newest models or prototypes.

The Jeep Gladiator and the Chrysler Imperial prototypes made going into other brand areas worth it!!!

Looks like George won't be making the trip with me this year. :( His job at Dulles is cutting into his "free time". His weekends now happen on Wed-Thurs. Here's a pic from last year's show \/\/\/\/\/. Yeah, I know ... it's a Challenger. We liked it.

Mike, I'll be shooting for 10:15 AM at the Chinatown Metro Station same as last year. George has to work. The wife is uncommitted at this point. ;)

I will get a report on the show from George tonight. He's off today and tomorrow and is planning on heading up there with some friends.

Didn't you travel down with us last year? I still have your Metro ticket.

Maybe the year before. Mike met George and I at Chinatown at 10:20 PM. You and Chris were running late last year and just barely made the 12 Noon link-up at the FORD display near the Shelby GT500. He did go home with you last year. ;)

I'll probably metro in from Franconia or Alexandria. As of right now I'm not sure if I'll be able to meet at Chinatown, we often have work committments starting at 6am on Saturdays so it depends on when I can break away, but, I will be there at the meeting place by the Ford stand at noon if that's still the plan. I was thinking I should be leaving my place no later than 10.

If the plans to just meet at Chinatown instead I'll shoot for that too but otherwise will jsut call when I get to the show.

I will get a report on the show from George tonight. He's off today and tomorrow and is planning on heading up there with some friends.
Got the report from George. He liked the show; but was only able to spend about 4 hours there today (11:30 AM - 3:30 PM) because he needed to get back here to pick up his car from the dealer for some warranty work.

He says that the Ford display is at the back of Halls C & D upstairs (same area as last year but at the opposite end from the entry doors. That might be good 'cause there is a cafeteria right there for the lunch inclined.

Since I didn't want to wait for the ride at "Jeep Camp" last year, he decided to take the obstacle course this year. No line on a Wednesday. He and a buddy rode the Jeep Rubicon (extended length version) over the obstacle course. He said the side hill climb and the downhill on the big hill were the most "interesting". He said he could reach out the window and touch the ground on the side hill.

His list of Must See concepts:

Ford "Interceptor" concept ..... 400 HP possible replacement for the CV --- but not 'til 2012 ???

Ford "Airstream" crossover concept ... collaboration between Ford and Airstream trailer manufacturer. Very interesting features. You'll definitely see the Airstream influence in the design.

Buick Urban Concept .... 20 inch wheels, ground effects, 2-tone .... seems GM is trying to "Open some new doors, too"

No Dodge Challenger on the floor this year.

He gave the show a  He's a car guy who likes just about everything on wheels. :D This show has lots of that in all varieties and makes.

Pick up a copy of 'Auto Trader' and tear out a page. It is worth $4 off of admission to the car show.

I heard there's going to be a big anti-war rally in DC on Saturday. I wonder how that'll affect the crowds, etc. Hence why I'm not driving in though.

Gordon, I came back with you guys, last year. That's why you have the subway ticket. I'll try to get on the train at Shady Grove at 9AM to be at Chinatown to Meet Charlie ~ 10. Last year I was on the train before Chris could get you out of bed, and you guys didn't get there until noon, as I recall. :sleepy:

It's great news that we'll be sharing our train ride with the great unwashed, going to and from the protest. We'll be able to view the 50 something's X Hippy chicks who gave up wearing their bra's back in the 70's.

The ride back should be a hoot! Who knows, perhaps we'll get offered a hit on the joint they'll be passing around. Remember ......."Be sure to hide the roaches" :beatnik:

Darn, I went looking, on line, but couldn't find a coupon to print out. Calvin & I will have to go for a ride & pick up a copy of Auto Trader.

There is a Senior Citizen's discount, though.

Um, I guess you young whippersnappers can't take advantage of that, though. :neener:

That's the plan for tomorrow as I understand it. I am meeting Mike Poore at the Chinatown Metro at 10:15 AM. We'll walk up to the Convention Center from there. See you at the FORD Display at noon unless we happen to run across each other before then. :D

I expect to depart Fairfield ~ 8 to arrive at Shady Grove Metro ~9, for the trip on the Red Line to Chinatown station, meeting Charlie ~10. Hopefully the protesters won't hog all the parking places at Metro. If I'm lucky, I'll find some of 'em handing out free metro tickets.

Sorry I missed you at the Hard Rock, but since I got there late I headed upstairs to complete my tour of the show. I knew if I left, I wouldn't make it back.

And sure enough I was correct, the metro ride back was almost as hard as the one in!

Sorry I missed some of you there!

It looks like everyone had a good time!
Sorry I could not attend, I was doing some mid-winter house fix up projects.

BTW: Did the Hollywood actors and war protesters clog up the Metro?
Oh, that's right....Susan Sarandon & Tim Robbins wouldn't be caught dead on a subway!;)
