View Full Version : steal a Marauder without a key?

My brother in Las Vegas had his Denali stolen. It seems they removed the ignition switch and drove it away. Can this happen with a Marauder? I assumed the computer would not allow it without a coded key, but now I'm wondering if that is true.
Depending on which year his Denali was, it may have been easier to steal. Relatively new GM's are a bit tougher to rip. As far as Ford's modern PAT's cars, they are pretty tough to get away with. But anything can be stolen, regardless! In answer to your question, no you cannot take the lock cylinder out and stick a screwdriver in the slot and make your car run without some sophisticated equipment - rest assured!

GMT800 chassis trucks all say in the manual there is passkey 3, but unless your Key is Stamped "PK3" you can just start it up and haul a** with nothing.
My 01 Z71 started and ran with a Key Cut from Lowes.

I've been working part time with a repo man for about 2 months now...
If its got wheels we can jack it. Key's or no keys. :D He uses a "Sneaker" F-350 dualy with a lift hidden under the rear bed/frame. You don't see it coming and one minute later he's gone.
I never realized how easy it is to steal a car.

Wasn't the Marauder one of the most stolen cars last year?

If you have a remote start in the car, then you can steal it (as in start it and drive it) without a key.

Now i have heard on other cars that are stolen with factory security systems that along with a screwdriver you now need a wire with alligator
clips to bypass the key and pats.Just what i heard:rolleyes: i don't know.:dunno:
Thats why they say to install a kill switch were it cannot be seen or easily found.
Theoretically, you could bust the ignition, bring a flash device with the pats disabled, flash the car, then start it up with a screwdriver.
Not like i ever contemplated it or anything.

Zack is right the Marauder has pats and as Sal said if you have a remote start it could be activated, but normally its on a time cycle and will shut off, on my car if you tap the brake pedal it kills the motor as well, as open the doors or hood when the engine is running in remore start it will also kill the engine.:burnout:

Same with my self-installed remote start.

Well I wasn't talking about starting the car with remote start. I meant breaking into the car and forcing the key switch. If you have a remote start, there is always a third coded key in the car. The better installers will use a remote module box that ties into the remote start, but lots of lazy installers just tape a 3rd coded key right to the column next to the transponder. So you just break in, force the key to run, and it reads the remote start's coded key.

Funny you should ask. I started a thread a while ago, and no one noticed.

And while researching that, I typed "mercury marauder pats override" into google and got lots of hits:

Yes that is true. But it is a percentage of vehicles produced to vehicles stolen. Therefore a low production will reflect a greater percentage of stolen vehicles.

I noticed on my remote start system (Ford system) that a higher rev will also turn the car off. I

Those links are for PATS overrides for installing an aftermarket remote start. I don't think they'll work without a remote start system.
