Just tell her to shut up and that she is too bossy and why is the house always a mess and Oprah on all freakin' day long and what's with all these empty Hagen-Daas containers and are the kids even remotely familiar with a wash cloth and when is her lousy leech of a brother moving out of the basement... and... what was the question again?
Oh... maybe put it on?

I have to admit. In my old CV, I rarely wore my seatbelt. One of my friends got into a horrific accident that almost cost him his life. When I bought the MM, I listened to that little thing and continue to do. You should too.

Yes, it can be silenced.
While some believe it best to wear, some believe it an invasion to be forced to do so.
In any event, the PCM can be told not to nag. It's in the owners manual, which I don't have immediately at my disposal.
It goes something like turn the key on. Plug the seatbelt in and out like 9 times, key off, key on, plug and unplu once, airbag light flashed confirmation, done. Repeat on other side.
Each seat has a weight sensor which enables the nag which is why it doesn't nag when teh pass. seat is empty.
I did mine first week I had it. Drove me nuts. My car, my risk.

Two ways:
1) Wear the seatbelt.
2) RTFM

Deactivating/activating the BeltMinder_ feature
Read Steps 1 -4 thoroughly before proceeding with the
deactivation/activation programming procedure.
The driver and front passenger BeltMinder_ features can be
deactivated/activated by performing the following procedure:
Before following the procedure, make sure that:
•The parking brake is set
•The gearshift is in P (Park)(automatic transmission)
•The ignition switch is in the OFF position
•The driver and front passenger safety belts are unbuckled
Steps:
1.Turn the ignition switch to the RUN (or ON)position.(DO NOT
START THE ENGINE)
2.Wait until the safety belt warning light turns off.(Approximately
1 minute)
•Step 3 must be completed within 50 seconds after the safety belt
warning light turns off.
3.For the seating position being disabled,at a moderate speed,buckle
then unbuckle the safety belt 9 times, ending in the unbuckled state.
(Step 3 must be completed within 50 seconds after the safety belt
warning light turns off.)
•After Step 3,the safety belt warning light will be turned on for three
seconds.
4.Within 10 seconds of the light turning on,at a moderate speed,buckle
then unbuckle the safety belt.
•This will disable the BeltMinder_ feature for that seating position if it
is currently enabled. As confirmation, the safety belt warning light will
flash 1 time per second for 3 seconds.
•This will enable the BeltMinder_ feature for that seating position if it
is currently disabled. As confirmation, the safety belt warning light will
flash 4 times per second for 3 seconds, followed by 3 seconds with the
light off, then followed by the safety belt warning light flashing 1time
per second for 3 seconds again.

My car, my risk.
True, but if not wearing the seatbelt causes more damages and the insurance company has to payout more $$$$ then we eventually will all have to pay.... via increased insurance rates.

Thanks this is useful info, I hate that thing.
For what it's worth, I always wear my belt.
But I also sometimes hop it to park in my parking lot after unloading the car, I have to pull around the community at like 5mph to get to my "safe" spot to park. No I don't belt for this, and it bugs me.
I know to buckle up, so I don't need a reminder.
I'll leave the passenger one on though so my passengers don't get away with it. ;)

I feel ya. But now that the technical question is answered...
Who's safer?
Me) Fully concentrating, driving a little faster than traffic in a car set up to do just that - no seatbelt.
or
Her) On cell phone, putting on make up, slow in the fast lane, cheap azz car - seatbelt on.
Here's my point...
She's more of a menace and a danger to the general public and insurance rates, but no one tells her it's against the law to put on make up, read, talk on the phone, etc because she can do whatever she wants in her own car, right? There's no law against what she's doing. There's no law to charge her with for not paying a dam bit of attention. However, since there IS a law against not wearing a seatbelt I get charged with the accident when she REAR-ENDS me.
It's one of those fundamental fairness issues that just bugs the crap out of me. We law and outlaw crap in this country without much sense at all. Knee-jerk reactions. Yes, seat belt use has reduced traffic fatality, but how much more fataities have cell phones caused?!
I could go on all day. as a matter of fact, the dam seatbelt thing is why I'll never own a GM. You CAN'T turn it off in a 03+ GM.
Just a point to ponder. I don't need no stinkin flame suit. You'll never knock me off this soapbox!!!!

Yeah I'm tying hard not to get started on a political rant about trial lawyers, congressmen (AKA trial lawyers), and all thier little potificating safety scam's that inable them and the insurance companies to make the millions they make off of ambulance chasing. And if I wanted to be safe I'd buy a low power honda or something. I don't think that after takig off my top speed limiter that a safety belt is going to make much of a diff at 140 or whatever.
It kills me the *****ing that people do about the price of gas and at the same time spend alsmost as much for a pint of water and then never say a word about the cost of Car Insurance.
I just want to be able to take it off if I want, or leave my door open with the key in.

Just saw your post thanks. Can't believe thaywoud actually provide away. On my F-150 I figured out how to cut off one pin on the buzzer to stop all the alarms for everthing.
When you could do this? (F150 & Mustang)
You can Deactivate the Belt Minder two ways. First, you can deactivate it temporarily for your current "run cycle", that is after you have started your car and it's still running. Second, you completely deactivate the Belt Minder so that it never reminds you again, or at least until your reactivate it...
The first method, temporary deactivation, or one time disable: After you have started your vehicle, buckle and then un-buckle your safety belt. Be sure to buckle back up.... This will disable the Belt Minder only for that ignition cycle.
The second method, permanent deactivation: There are 9 steps you need to follow to deactivate or activate your Belt Minder system. Before doing so, make sure that:
The parking brake is set.
The truck/car is in Park (automatic), Neutral (manual).
The ignition is OFF.
All doors are closed.
The driver's safety belt is un-buckled.
The parking and headlights are OFF.Then follow these 9 steps:
Turn the ignition switch to ON, but DO NOT START.
Wait for the safety belt warning light to go OFF(1-2 minutes).Steps 3-5 MUST be completed within 60 seconds!

Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled.
Turn on the headlights, turn off the headlights.
Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled.After step 5, the Safety Belt Warning Light will be turned on for 3 seconds.
Within 7 seconds of the safety belt warning light turning OFF, buckle then un-buckle the safety belt. This will disable the Belt Minder if it is currently enabled, or enable the Belt Minder if it is currently disabled.

Confirmation of the disabling of the Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light 4 times per seconds for 3 seconds.
Confirmation of the enabling of the Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light 4 times per seconds for 3 seconds, followed by 3 seconds with the safety belt light off, then followed by flashing the safety belt light 4 times per second for 3 seconds again.
After confirmation, the deactivation/activation of the Belt Minder procedure is complete.

"RTFM" has been used for years in tech speak, when answering questions by novice computer users. It's more of a joke than anger, but the point is valid.
Heck, even my students use the initials with impunity around school. If nothing else, it at least has them acknowledging the premise that some good things can come from reading books.
Anyway, there is an e-manual being passed around - I think I have it somewhere. Anyone who wants a copy need only ask.

No one is 'sounding like the Government'.
The simple answer to the question is 'buckle the belt'. When you are sitting in your car 'showing it to a customer' your belt could still be buckled. Does your 'minder' go off when the car is running and in neutral?
I don't think anyone likes the bell, and it should probably be easier to be turned off, or have a time limiter on the function. Some Ford reminder bells only 'Ding' a few times before stopping, even if the belt isn't buckled.

I am of the belief that nearly all wrecks (barring equipment failure, and even some of those) are caused by some form of innattentiveness at the root.
Not only are we burdened with the higher insurance caost, etc by such innattentiveness, but also inconvenieced due to innattentivenes.

Human nature!!! Fun, ain't it?

Why is it so hard to answer a simple question without sounding like the government?
Because a question was asked that didn't provide the details as to the circumstances driving the question leaving people to speculate.
One of the speculative reasons would be that the person asking the question intends to operate the motor vehicle without using the seat belt.
Those arriving at that conclusion might actually care about the health and well being of the person asking and suggest a course of action that generally accepted practices would dictate make the most sense and thus suggest the employment of a seatbelt.
If you generally give a crap about people, you may want to see them continue to exist in an undamaged state.
If I had asked a basic question that people could speculate would lead to my harm or someone elses, I would hope the outcome would be the same.
A question such as "What bullet does the most damage?" leaves open a lot of speculation. The reader may surmise that I am a hunter... or I am a home defense afficianado... or I'm going to kill someone...
Because of the way I ask, I leave my reasons and intent for asking to the speculation of the reader.
If, in fact, in the course of my replies reveal that I am going to do something potentially counter-intuitive that would raise my risk profile ("I want to shoot into the air because where I live you can shoot guns!"), I expect people may point out the counter-intuitiveness of my actions.

I would like to see drivers who talk on cell phones, put on make up, read a book/the paper, sort through CD collections, etc, get a lot more notice and action from Police.
They are 'careless' drivers, 'Impaired" drivers, 'reckless' drivers, etc.
I'd like to see Bicyclists who have no regard for rules of the road get more attention as well.

Disconnect the battery.
Problem solved. :P
Well I RTFM as someone tactfully suggested and was surprised that it really is there. I probably saw the title cussed and blew on through it. But I don't see anything about the key in ignition warning. Anyone know how to get rid of that? I'd like all the "so called" safety warnings gone.

+1 on what was stated above. Besides, it might save your a$$.
