Hey guys. I am finally going to install my head unit and i just wanted to know if someone knows which wires that come from the steering wheel audio buttons do what. Anyone know? That would be a GREAT help. Thanks so much. -Shawn

This hase been answered a million times... and usually by me.

Pin 14 in the radio harness is from the steering wheel. You'll need a PAC-SWX to listen to this wire. You'll need to mount it's infra red transmitter and you'll need an infra-red remote compatible with your unit to program the PAC-SWX.

+1 on the Pac SWX. I had one that controlled my AVIC.

I chose not to get one when I had my eXcelon installed. I figure'd since I have a remote, what the hell I don't need it. I wish i got one installed now.

Actually, PAC makes a few head unit specific interfaces. The Pioneer and Kenwood use a specific one that plugs into the radio. Eclipse uses a hard-wired one. The SWI-X is a universal infrared repeater that duplicates all the commands of a wireless remote. Downside; slow response and spotty performance in the sunlight.

i bought the SWI-ALP one....the newest one that has the hardwired link to the headunit. However i need to know which wires in the harness are for which function.....such as volume up, down, next track, etc....anyone know the colors of the wires and their functions? Would be a great help. Thanks. -Shawn

hey guys....i never got this issue resolved...i ended up buying the SWI-ALP in addition to the swi-x because i thought it would be easier to install. i still couldnt find anywhere online to read up about which actual wires do which function. Can anyone who actually did this shed some light on it? And what's the deal with these resistors? Am i missing something?

Depending on the brand of headunit, you choose the PAC SWI-X(universal), PS(Pioneer/sony) etc. accordingly. Now, to install, as Magindat has said you will use the wire from pin 14 on the radio. AS far as the the resistors go, I dont believe you have to use them on the Marauder, BUT, read the instructions with the unit.

There's not a separate wire for each function. There's ONE wire. Pin 14. That's it. The interface sorts out the signals sent from each button travelling on the ONE wire.

Pardon my impatience, but you had it 'sorted out' by the first reply!

OHHHH....wow...i get it now. No because those stupid resistors and the PIN harness diagram from the instruction manual of the PAC box not matching mine totally threw me off.... thanks for the extended clarification guys. :) Much appreciated. -shawn
