"OIL DOWN PENALTY/REWARDS: We must take action to eliminate wasted time due to oil-downs of the track. Last year, we instituted a rewards program for our racers who install an engine diaper. Winners in Q-16, Super Pro, and No-Electronics will receive a $100.00 ($200.00 max) bonus if they have an engine diaper installed. In an attempt to conclude our races in a reasonable length of time, effective immediately, the following oil-down policy will be in place: Any racer causing the race to be delayed due to track cleanup of more than 15 minutes will be automatically disqualified from the event. Any racer causing more than one 15 minute cleanup during the year will forfeit all points earned during that event and will have $200.00 deducted from any winnings earned during that event. Any racer causing a cleanup of more than 15 minutes during time trials or eliminations will not be allowed another pass down the racetrack for the remainder of the event. No refunds will be issued to any racer and/or crewmember causing any of the above listed infractions."

Having waited hours and hours on numerous occasions I am glad to see our local track adopt it.

Engine diaper? Do you use cloth style with safety pins , or disposable Huggies with sticky tabs? Does the track provide a Diaper Genie for the cars that have little "accidents"?

sorry...couldn't resist......:D

Not sure I understand exactly what it is you are talking about. Is this like having an oil pan over an oil pan? Or is it something disposable?

I wish that they would institute this policy at Capitol Raceway...

I've seen my fair share of Ricers who line up their P.O.S. in the water box, bounce the turd Honda VTEC off the rev limiter for 10 seconds and then promptly puke their engine's guts all over the starting line!

Then everybody has to wait for the cleanup and that lane usually sucks for the rest of the night.

I mention Ricers because I've rarely seen a domestic blow their engine up...
Now, I have seen plenty of domestics waste flywheels, clutches, transmissions, and axles...a common problem when you are producing TORQUE.

BTW: Those huge Ricer wings DO work at the drag strip...They give all the driver's buddys a place to push as they move the broken turd off the track!

Too many times I have seen examples of engines seriously damaged to the point that the driver knows it, yet he continues down the track and sometimes back up the pitts.

He waists 2-3 hours of everyones time with no remourse or apology.

Really makes me angry.

I have no problem w/ the catastrophic failure and the driver stops on the track, like a gentleman.

I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday that races in the Outlaw stock suspension class in the south. He said it is just a matter of time before it is a standard requirement for all modified race cars.
