I look at it like this its just a converter many companies and independent businesses make converters just gotta find a quality company or shop. I had a 2400 stall converter made for my 85 Crown Victoria and it works great craftsmanship was superb. The price was also a grea deal. Im going to see if I can get one made by him for what i want shouldnt be no were near the price of a PI converter is. Alot of teh price is probaly Name branding and Dealer kickback i dunno just talkin out loud.

I'm gonna have a used one for sale soon. While they're working on my tranny this time I'm switching from the single disc to a multi-disc so my old one will be available in a week or so.

This may sound farfetched Brian, but Im convinced Triple Disk converters slow the car down.
I couldnt stand Macs car with it.
Hope you have good luck.

Check with Darin at bc-automotive.com . He is a member here also. You have to be careful, what you are looking for in a TC is not only the stall speed, but torque multiplication also.

Look on Mustang boards and Summit. I don't think there is any difference between a tq converter for the Mustang as long as it's meant for a 4r70w

I perfer going with what has been used by other members with great success. Rather then being the Guinea pig with another brand.
It goes both ways, but I like Reliablility and long term usage.

When I was looking for a converter for my twin turbo build, I eventually bought one from http://www.protorque.com/

Wayyy back, Jerry spoke with them and as I remember, had them build one or more experimental converters for him. They went into a few high horsepower cars. I also bought one of their converters four years ago for my every day driver - which I still have.

I've got an ART CARR 2800 Stall converter.
I love it...she launches like a rocket!

(Last year I pulled a 1.795 60 foot at the track and left the Mitsubishi AWD EVO in the other lane like he was in neutral!!!
Best part was watching him in my mirror.....and him being unable to pull a Big 4 door with an automatic on the top end!)

Check my signature. It was significantly less than the PI from vendors here.

> I wonder how they keep you abreast of any new products?

...I'm on the Ford FE forum frequently, and you might be surprized at the amount of problems with aftermarket converters. The PI ("Precision Industries Stallion") must be a top choice from all the excellent reports on this forum.

Quote:
"The front cover of the 9.5"-inch torque converters starts production as a 92 pound piece of billet steel and when the CNC machine makes the last cut it weighs about 12 to 14 pounds. Our unique billet cover along with other high performance internal parts allow us to produce torque converters that are custom built and designed for each individuals needs, wants and expectations" If it is the quality reported, it is a good value at $750.

Dennis R, what kind of price can we get on a group buy?

I got a PI 3000 from DR. I've be playing with shift points and lockups with the SCT software. The SURGE of power due to the torque multiplication from ANY SPEED is sheer pleasure.

A torque converter was not my first choice of things to do, but while I was doing, I did it ALL. Gears, shaft, Art Carr tranny, TC, rear cooling mod. I'm really glad I spent the extra $ on the converter. The package would not have been complete without it.

It's worth the money. This said by a single father of modest income. FWIW...

EXACTLY, well said. PI has a impeccable reputation as well as customer service, they offer a free upgrade with in the first year, these converters are priced right, and yes there are less expensive converters out there, and as the old saying goes YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, I would gladly do a group buy for the club, just let me know.

What do we have to do to get a group buy started? Dennis, any idea on price?

I was told by PI that as long as you own their torque converter they will do one (1) stall change free. Of course shipping it to them is your responsibility. I picked up my converter at their "plant". It's amazing what comes out of that little building! I, for one, am happy I got a PI. If you think there are better converters out there, by all means buy one and report your findings here.... but checkout PI's website first.

I am doing it now in my forum we need five minimum to start this they have the converters readily available you need to specify stall speed and whether the car is N/A or S/C

I agree with trying bc-automotive. Darrin just installed a 3,500 TC in my Vic with one of his performance built trannys - wow!
